I have a cell phone number of a fella who owes me quite a bit of money. No address except for a PO box.which was shown on the judgement 2 years ago. I'm trying to track him down for payment. I called him tonight ,after tracking down a cell number. Played dumb as though I had the wrong number.

What would you suggest as the next steps.

I'm not happy about this mess...is it a deputy Sheriff I need to get involved? or a PI.

there is no address and yes I have had my attorney write the post office to get the addy for the case. he left it at that. The judgement is in place and good for 10 years.

Does he own any property? Like maybe a house that he lives in? Start at the assessors office for the local counties. It may take a few days, but I will bet you can find him.

I found my daughter's new house a couple of years ago with nothing but names and a county.

Just,

Check with the courts, they may have current info on your guy.
Other than what was suggested, I would try to "play dumb" again and see if he will meet up with you to work it out.

If this guy is hostile, call the sheriff.

Just my 0.02 cents

Does he owe you money over a survey? If so, why don't you just file a mechanics lien? They've worked great for me.

True,
There's nothing I can file the claim on. The survey I did he used to convey property to an LLC in Maryland. I was told by my former attorney to just let it go. No can do! I've decided that come hell or high water I will collect as much of the 54k owed to me....no holds barred. I would love nothing more than to be there when the sheriff shows up ready to confiscate items for auction to repay the debt. Between this joker and another schmuck PE I am owed over 30k.

btw...thanks for all the comments and advice to all.

Skip tracing

Go with a collections attorney. A PI will only turn the information over to somebody else.

Or you could hire somebody who specializes in finding people, based on whatever information you have. My girlfriend does it for a PI and a lawyer, kind of as a well payed hobby. Then she just provides the whereabouts to them, and they do all the legal stuff.

But you definitely need somebody with access to private information on people, that us regular folks can't get. Stuff like credit scores, SS no's, liabilities, assets, corporate activities, etc. Then you will still need the legal action to get anything.

Doubtful the sheriff will do anything for you, as this is a civil matter.

Good luck!

Instead of seeking a judgement, I usually send a past due bill (return receipt requested) with a copy of the state statutes covering theft of service. In Texas, it's the cost of the survey plus $1000 and legal fees. If the bill is over $2000, it is a state jail felony. Don't know how they hold up in court, no one has called my bluff yet.

When a surveyor surveys land for a client and they don't pay, the claim is to the land not the individual.

Zabasearch.com is my first suggestion. Email me, I would be happy to try to track them in MD.
