And then there's the tiresome Caitlyn and the dozens of ways it can be spelled. Apologies to the many of you who have kids named Kaitlyn or Katelin or Caitlin or ....... you get the picture.

There is a co-worker here who's name is Jimmy, not James, not Jim, Jimmy...he showed me his DL for proof.

We had an instrument operator here who's first name was JW. We called him J-Dub.

Had a coworker like that 40 years ago. He was born in Arkansas and was named Jimmy. A few years later the family moved to Michigan and a little brother was born there. They named the new little boy James.

A former coworker retired from surveying and started teaching fifth grade.?ÿ One of the reasons he got out was to avoid another coworker I'll call "Jose Gamboa" whom he couldn't stand working with anymore.

The school district he taught at was in the Santa Ana school district, which is heavily Hispanic.?ÿ He had five "Jose Gamboas" in his class!

This may be a repeat but the town obstetrician I knew (RIP)?ÿ was named Peter Strange.

A neighbor's Dad had a middle name of "O".?ÿ When surveying one summer in deep wilderness our mule wrangler had no middle name.

I know a family with the surname of Talley.  Always thought they should have named a son Wacker.  Any time the surname would go first, then the first name last, would get a rise out of the casual listener or reader of a phone book.  This would be especially great in a roll call situation where the response would be , "HERE".

In fact, I just learned that Bob Talley passed away a few days ago.  Two days ago I was doing research into a survey of what used to be a tire repair shop in a small town about twenty miles from here.  Noticed that Bob had been the owner of the lots adjoining to the south at one time.  My immediate thought was, "Huh, Wonder how Bob's doing these days.  Haven't heard anything for at least six months and that was bad news then."  That evening I opened the newspaper and there was Bob's obituary.  He was approaching his 97th birthday so it wasn't much of a surprise, really.

@mike-marks

I went to high school with a kid named Peter Dix. The guy suffered miserably every day. He’s probably a serial killer now.

@flga Now where could you have been to hear names like that?  I'd be willing to bet that your wife wasn't with you (grin).

I worked with a guy named Dick Wada. Hope he went by Richard when they did roll call in school. I also knew a guy who had the last name of Sperling. His son named his grandson Sterling Sperling. My dad was from Texas and swore he grew up with a girl named April May June.
