Some parents should not be allowed to name their own children. That's all there is to it.

One thing nearly everyone hates is needing to spell their own names about four billion times over a lifetime because their parents thought they were being cute. Today's new one to me was: Addicyn.

Caryn, Karyn, Karen, Karin, Carrin, Karrin
Emily, Emilie, EmmaLee
Darryl, Darrell, Daryl, Darel, Deral
Alan, Allen, Allan, Alin
Susie, Suzie, Suzy, Soozee
Even Michael ends up being Micheal in some cases.
Philip and Phillip is confusing enough
Worked with a fellow whose name was John John, not sure about his middle name, I was afraid to ask.

Carson, Karcyn, Carsyn, Carcyn
Amy, Aime, Aimee, Amee, Amie, Aimie
Taylor, Tailor, Taelor
Derek, Derrick
Dylan, Dillon, Dylon, Dyllan

There's no end of variations, nor of names that probably didn't exist 50 years ago.

My sister started teaching in 1974. She said that names used to be easy. By the time she retired, she never ventured to guess the spelling of a name, and often was uncertain of the pronunciation of a written name.

Addicyn is a perfectly good name...for an over the counter pain reliever.

Mike appears to be much less cautious about his identity than he used to be. The Bill of whom I think you speak (not me) still gives few clues to his worldly name, but is free with his location.

Those names were both really common when I was a boy. If the teacher hollered Bill or Mike, six kids would look up.

I suspect this Nom de Plume was influenced by the town in Oklahoma of that name.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paden,_Oklahoma
"named for Paden Tolbert, a U.S. Deputy Marshal who served the area in the early 1900s."

But Google has over 5 million hits for Paden, many of them a person's first or last name.

That, too, but it had to come from somewhere.

Ain't no Bills around here, except Mr. 93. And dat's da truth. Dere are zero o'dem in my clan. And dat's da truth.

Know three brothers named Joe Lon, Ron and Don. Don's middle name is Rahn, which is pronounced the same as brother Ron. Don's children all have place names. One might be from Texas, one from Georgia and one from somewhere north of Nebraska. None of them were named that based on something like the TV commercial about the kid named after the car in which they were conceived. Don now has a grandchild named Arlo. I suggested to the parents of Arlo that when they have a daughter they should name her Janis. They had no clue as to why I might say that. So, I had to introduce them to the comic strip named after its primary characters, a couple named Arlo and Janis.

Sister's name is Sharon. 'Pops' is what we always called my father, but his first name was really Earnest. His father's name was Pettigrew, everyone just called him Petty...

Family names are OK up to a point. I could have been given my grandfathers' middle names and became Judson Jackson Cow. Even better would have been a couple of great-grandfathers' names to become Silas Lorenzo Cow. The other combo would have been Joseph Joseph Cow. The only White JoJo I ever knew played for the Celtics after Kansas University let him go.

There's an attorney in town here named "Larry Derryberry". Actually it's "Larry J. Derryberry"...and yes, his middle name is Jerry.

Whoowhee! That's a handle and a half.

Sometimes women curse themselves when they get married and take on the husband's surname. Paige Page, for example. In recent years the odds of similar doubles has increased significantly with the potential for Morgan Morgan, Taylor Taylor, Madison Madison and others. Years ago there was a couple at Mississippi State University that were both professors with doctorates named Billy Joe and Billie Jo. I know a brother and sister that are Cassidy and Sydney. The male is Cassidy.

Larry Jerry Derryberry...................love it!
