Watching Kyle Busch dominate the last month of the season in each of NASCAR's top three touring series, I've noticed a common denominator in each and every performance - domination of the NASCAR re-start.
Since week two at Phoenix, Busch has scored Nationwide wins in three of four starts, a Sprint Cup win, and a Camping World Truck Series win. Five wins in nine NASCAR starts. Or should I say re-starts?
It amazes me how no other driver in the sport has figured out what the heck Kyle Busch is doing on re-starts - because they are all getting straight out beaten by Busch on each and every wave of the green flag. Whether he is coming from the back, or leading the charge, as he has done for the last month, the pure ass-kicking being performed by Busch is down right AWESOME.
Or is it? Could Busch be cheating on NASCAR's re-starts? Drivers are supposed to hold pace car speed as they come out of turn four, right up until they see the wave of the green flag. Now, perception of the actual waving of the green flag varies from NASCAR officials to drivers to fans. But, the only variable Busch needs to worry about is the officials - and so far so good. He has yet to be black flagged for jumping the start, but when was the last time anyone was black flagged for jumping the start? Take a look at your Tivo of the last few races - Busch is not shy about stomping on the gas before everybody else...and NASCAR doesn't seem to care.
But, dominance often leads to rule changes. Could we see a 'Kyle Busch Re-Start Rule' in the near future? My thought is this - if Busch continues to run away from the field on re-starts, and he has a clear advantage week in and week out, we could be looking at a change to the re-start procedure. The 'Kyle Busch Restart Rule'.
It may sound crazy, but you know how things work in NASCAR - I mean, whoever thought NASCAR would make teams alternate gas and fuel between two different pit stops? And, didn't they really bring this domination on themselves with the initiation of the double file re-start?
Double file re-starts have a ton to do with Busch's dismantling of the NASCAR re-start - but so does lane choice. Busch has been a master at choosing the best lane to start from, and when he has been moved to another lane by the P1 driver, he has adapted brilliantly and has often taken the lead away from P1. Let's all admit it, Busch grew up in the Las Vegas desert and he is part chameleon.
Whatever changes NASCAR makes to the sport, Busch adapts. Who can forget trashing the COT live on TV after getting the first win in NASCAR's new car? Drivers better be concerned because the Master of the Restarts is driving to the front consistently and winning a lot, just ask Carl Edwards.
So, what we have is a very young, brash, winning NASCAR driver, and we all know what that leads to. NASCAR Nation will cry that he hasn’t earned his stripes, or something to that effect and force a change. How much more domination in the sport do we need to witness before fans begin to accept that he is a great driver? At the very least, the maturity level shown by Busch this season should have all of the NASCAR Chase contenders shaking in their racing boots. It certainly looks like a championship season is forming quickly in the #18 garage.
Lastly, if you add in the engine issues at Joe Gibbs Racing, which cost Busch dearly at Las Vegas - his accomplishments this season are even more impressive - thanks again...to the re-starts.
If Busch continues to pull-off re-start after re-start, and there is no reason to think he won't, he will have a profound impact on the Chase for the Sprint Cup, he will be a serious candidate for the 2011 championship, and he may have a new rule named after him. - By The BIG Man thebigman@captainthunderracing.com

I'd bet just about everybody who says they don't like NASCAR has never actually been to a race. That rumble you feel in your chest when they fire up 43 800hp machines is pretty impressive. Granted, it's not as interesting as it used to be, but it's still pretty good entertainment.
As for Kyle, each track has a spot, usually a mark on the wall, where once there, the leader can start regardless of when the flag waves. And nobody can pass anybody until they pass the start/finish line, except on the outside. And it's pretty easy to beat everybody on the restart if you are already in front. No doubt he's good, Ron Hornaday is about the best in any of the series.
Meh, F1 and motoGP now that is racing! Hills and not just left but right turns too! The rumble is neat, but the sound of an F1 engine.....oh that gets my engine going. Drags are cool too.
