One of my favorites. And F & L on the Campaign Trail 1972 one of the best books on national politics I've read. I just wish I could stand to watch either of the first two movies; maybe this one will nail it.
I thought depp's Fear and Loathing movie was an amazing movie. I loved that they really followed the book, not trying to add too much to that incredible story. so many times directors have to add their own stamp to a book that really stands alone. I hope they did Rum Diaries the same way.
Hellish Speed...Grappling with the California Highway Patrol...Mano a Mano on Highway 81 (title of Chapter 12)
Ah yes, Raoul Duke and his 300 pound Samoan Attorney
"There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge..."
I think I know some people like that.
I really liked the book in the 70s.
It was a great companion to F&L on the Campaign Trial which were RS articles also.
Hell's Angels was a very popular book in HS along with Terry Southern stories.
Before his suicide, he was spending a lot of time in New Orleans and Waveland Ms. (About 45 minutes outside of N.O. on the Gulf))
People say that he could be found drinking and cavorting at the Firedog Saloon in Waveland frequently. I think he found some anonymity there. I had been to the Firedog in the past on trips to Waveland and it is amusing to hear that he adopted it for a hang-out. It was just a joint that attracted a very diverse crowd.
The Firedog was literally wiped off the face of the Earth by Katrina
