for you guys out there to get the equipment you purchased?

I feel like I'm being impatient but man I want my GPS already.

They said they ordered it on the 4th because they didn't have it in stock and it should ship to me by the end of the next week (the 11th). It's now the 18th and still hasn't shipped.

Does it usually take this long? This is my first new purchase of equipment. I've always bought used before and got it rather quickly.

A few months ago I ordered some new equipment from the other side of the country and got it in 2 days, other times it has taken weeks. It's a crapshoot

It's kind of like asking how much a steak costs. Too many variables.
Hopefully the delivery time isn't an indicator of service down the road...

Sounds like a bit long but the volume in inventory isn't like chinese toasters. They don't build them by the thousands and stack them on pallets to ship on order. They may be waiting for yours to be built and tested before it can be shipped.

When the Trimble 5600 series total stations were first introduced, it took 3 months for me to get a working unit.

Nate I ended up going with the GEOMAX. I really wanted the Javad but I just couldn't afford to go that much right now. It is on my wish list for sure.

I finally heard back from them. It's now supposed to ship early next week. I just hope early means monday or tuesday and not 6:00 am on friday. 🙂

It's like Christmas except they change the date on Christmas eve and don't tell you. You wake up expecting to open your present only to find out Christmas is next week or the week after!

Got it today. Batteries are on charge. Won't be long now and I will be ready to get this thing collecting data under thick canopy and right next to the biggest tree I can find.

If you run into a building real fast you can keep your lock and get a first floor elevation....GPS, there's nothing it can't measure

Another surveyor I know quite well was venting yesterday about HOT SPOT and why they no longer trust any data they take unless reshooting everything about three times or more to figure out which data are erroneous.

I am still waiting on two more batteries and they sent the wrong data collector. The one I was supposed to get has a camera. The one I got does not. There is a spot for a camera but no lens in the hole. just a piece of black plastic.

I located my driveway then headed to the woods. Instantly tells me I'm out of my mind and won't get anything better than 4 feet unless I stand there for a while then it went down to a .04'. But move it one foot and it's back to poor readings until I stand there for a while.

I'm going to use it where it will work and run the TS on the same points. Just to get a feel for it. It is quick as can be in the open. I located my driveway in no time at all. About 400' worth. Looks good just have to learn how to dump the data (I am setting up the DC with the PC right now).

Define "a while"? 10 seconds to a minute or so is reasonable to get initialization.

Yeah a minute or so. As soon as I wold move it I would get the bad readings but stand there for a minute or so and it would give me something better.

The test, of course, is repeat-ability. Will you actually get the same position +/- 0.04' on the same point tomorrow? I had a thread a couple months back (RTK Experiment) in which I documented tying a point under trees with good statistics one day, and getting a position on the same point the next day - also with good numbers - that was a foot different.

Set several points, tie them in with your TS or Robot for comparison.
