Headed out to Maui next Thursday for a little much deserved ten day paradise excursion with the wife, anyone know the secret spots? Her sister runs the Longhi's restaurants so the fine dining is covered. I'm hoping to find some great surfing and hiking.
If you fish, I hear the trolling is fantastic!
Don
Yep, do a lot of offshore and inshore fishing here in NC(speckled trout is my ultimate weakness) but I'm sure the wife doesn't want me on a boat during the "sextravaganza" trip.

Brat. I am jealous!!! 😛
I was on Maui in July and the beginning of August. There's TONS of stuff to do there!! Shopping, eating, exploring, snorkeling, etc... The cheapest place to stock up at for gas and food is the Costco by the airport.
Haleakala is a must do, sunrise or sunset. Looks like Mars up there!! The road to Hana was curvy but interesting. LOTS of little paths and waterfalls to hike on and jump into. The banana bread at the ½ way to Hana stop is yummy, so is their shaved ice. I probably would not do either one of these trips again, though, because I did not like the curvy roads. :-/
Makena beach is great!! Calm water and the birdies eat out of your hand! People are very kind and relaxed there. Big beach...great to see but pulverizing if you get in the water there. Little beach, just on the other side of Big Beach, is the nudist beach. Rumor has it that Stephen Tyler of Aerosmith hangs out there. (clothed!) B-)
The beach in front of the Grand Wailea was also nice and calm; great for swimming, but not great for snorkeling.
Snorkeling was great at Ulua beach; you just jump in right where the rocks and the beach meet and boom! Fishies!! I hear the further down you go past Makena beach, the better the snorkeling is. Just remember if you are in the water on the 1st of December at 11:45 AM, the Tsunami siren WILL go off. It's their "Monthly Test". No one told me this when I was in the water snorkeling and I about went into cardiac arrest!!! :-O
Front street in Lahaina has lots of cute shops and eats and art galleries. Fleetwoods on Front Street is now open. It is the restaurant owned by Mick Fleetwood. (Who was also so kind and gracious in person to autograph a tank top I bought off of his booth!!)
Have a good time. B-)
please take a lot of pics of you and the swmbo and post here for us but please don't post any of the "sextravaganza" variety. :-O
I am simply offended that you would share such a thing in public. Do you realize how much postage would cost, to send us over there? Makes me shudder to think about it. I could buy a whole new truck for that much money!
🙂
Have a good time. I'm just kidding you.
Nate
There's some president who was born there?. (Can't remember the name though.) I hear tell it's a scenic spot to visit for an afternoon.
Nate,
Save the $$$, you don't have to leave the homesite for a "sextravaganza" trip. 😉
That's a great list of stuff to do right there.
I would add on a driving trip from Kahului to Kapalua on the northeast coast, along a the road "much less traveled".
It's not as long and winding as the road to Hana, but there are a couple if interesting sections of the road about halfway - not for the faint of heart.
Thanks for all the input, I hope I enjoy the trip......leaving in one week!!
Everyone deserves a break.
Kit
Take the trip to Seven Sacred Pools in Hanna. Its a long winding road, but very cool.
I got back Sunday from 10 days on the big island, camping in State Parks.. Very interesting, nearly all of the people who camp are homeless. Hand some great conversations, and the stars and camping could not be beat.
Headed out next week to Molokai for flyfishing, then on to Christmas Island for more flyfishing for the superbowl of fish, the Giant Trevally.

I was told the pools were closed...They got washed out again or something. But I would double check just to be sure. In Hawaii, things change fast!! 🙂
I want to go to Molokai...back to OLD Hawaii. One of these days... :-$
Please post pics of Molokai and Christmas Island, Northern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see the board now has a children's books aficionado, how utterly disturbing.
Poor, poor Don.
I seriously doubt that you could find anybody there to point out the hospital?
If possible, go to Oahu and visit Pearl Harbor and take the tour to see the Arizona and of course the Big Missouri, battle ships.
