Ingredients
2 cups creamy peanut butter, (not all-natural)
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, softened
3 3/4 cups (16-oz. box) powdered sugar
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
Directions
LINE baking sheets with wax paper.
BEAT peanut butter and butter in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in powdered sugar until mixture holds together and is moistened. Shape into 1-inch balls; place on prepared baking sheets. Freeze for 1 hour.
MELT morsels and shortening in medium, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute; STIR. Morsels may retain some of their shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring just until melted.
DIP peanut butter centers into melted chocolate using a toothpick, leaving a small portion of the center uncovered. Shake off excess chocolate and scrape bottom of candy on side of bowl. Return to baking sheets; refrigerate until chocolate is set. Store in covered container in refrigerator.
I thought you were
talking about "real" bukeyes, the nuts (fruit?) that grow on the shrubs. I'll have to try the recipe though, sounds good.

My wife's recipe adds crushed Rice Krispies to the filling.
The real Buckeyes have a very interesting history.
Many years ago my father was having a problem with his shoulders. Early Arthritis he thought.
He worked with a guy that was part Choctaw Indian. He told my Dad that the tribal medicine mane said Dad needed to carry a buckey in his back pocket on the side where he had pain. He said that they "would draw out the "poisons" and pain".
Now Dad had a degree in Chemical Engineering, but was at a point to where he was willing to try most anything. So he put a buckeye in each back pocket. After about a week the pain went away, never to return.
When we buried Dad, we made sure his buckeyes were in his back pockets.
Chocolate and peanut butter are the beginnings of many a great dessert.
Time Marches On - So Do the Ouches
I need me some buckeyes for all my pockets and then some. Aleve just ain't cuttin' it any more. 😉
I have to be careful whenever I eat anything chocolate my bride makes.
She thinks it funny to substitute exlax :'(
She is cooking up a batch of them right now :-S
For that ornery uncle, I think I could make a batch, with a bit of cayenne pepper in the Bottom. That is, to dip the bottom corner in the powder, and then make them as normal.
Save that special one for him! 🙂

I tried loading up my underware. +o( Didn't work.:-$
Glad you posted that, I had forgotten all about it. My uncle used to carry one. I'm using Aleve, but a buckeye would be cheaper.
