Does anyone know of this company and it's firearms? My son, Kris, the ex-marine, who is now in school full time as a Mechanical Engineer, just scored an internship position with Daniel.

Daniel Defense

Interesting website, and their barrel fabrication is a unique method I'm not familiar with, but that's probably because I am not that well informed in the gunning world.

I've seen their stuff at local gun shows and they look like high quality firearms at reasonable prices. There have been some good reviews on them in the gun magazines that I get.
Quality products are usually produced by happy employees, so your son may be on to something really good.

They've done well in the marketplace, and he may be on nothing more than an extended interview.

I've seen more and more good reviews out there about them.

He might just be working on that "sweet spot" of a place to spend his time and energy on!

Best of Luck!

Nice weapons! I would soon be inquiring about family discounts.

They make high quality weapons. I am adding another AR platform rifle to my collection and they are at the top of that list.

Me too. My issue is to go with the 15 platform and an oddball caliber like the .300 blackout or .458 SOCOM (they are sexy) or to step up to the 10 platform with a .308. I'd really like to be in the 30 platform with a .338 lapua mag, but there's no way the old lady is going to let me drop that cash, even if I build it. AR50, fugetabouit! 🙂

I keep coming back to the 10 with the A2 battle stock in a standard .308 though. It's just, in my opinion, the best all around round out there on a proven platform.

rounds .223 v. 5.56

Do you use the 223 ammo or the 5.56? I've read that the .223 can be used with the 5.56 chambered rifle but not vice versa, or at least it's not recommended to shoot 5. 56, through a .223 barrel..

That's because of the headspace differences. Causes excessive chamber pressure.

Here's a pretty good article on it. A search will find thousands of discussions.

I read it to say that the main difference is the throat, with the military round being longer here, which would tend to increase resistance if fired in a .223 as the bullet starts to move. Therefore the pressure would be greater and be a risk. Many people have gotten away with it, but it is a significant risk.

Going the other way, a .223 in a chamber with military dimensions may lose a very small amount of performance.

Also, if reloading military brass you need to account for a thicker wall which reduces volume, and .223 loading formulas could be dangerous in that casing.

Kris, I got the S&W M&P15 in 300 Whisper/Blackout and LOVE it!! Shoots VERY flat with a lot of punch on the end. Very low recoil, so much so that it is really a pleasure to shoot. Even my granddaughter wants one.

It's slightly different. You can run 5.56 in a .223 all day long, just not in a bolt action. 🙂

The .458 SOCOM is a sexy beast, although expensive to shoot. I have been leaning towards the .300 Blackout with a suppressor. Check out the Daniel Defense .300 ISR.

They are among the top tier of AR style rifles in terms of quality of materials and workmanship. I bought one about a year and a half ago. Great gun.

If you take some time to peruse some forums of serious rifle users - those with a lot of current and former s.o. military and law enforcement types, you'll find that they hold DD in very high regard along with maybe about 4 or 5 other brands.
