One of my Christmas presents to my wife was a retro chair that had a built-in step-stool. I took the hint from her reminiscing about the ancient one her grandmother had, and about how you can get brand new ones (in November - she has to help me out with clues like this).

Anyway, I bought it from Target online - she said "if I buy one I'll get black to match the kitchen". So I order a black one. Long story short, two of the holes that receive machine screws on the legs aren't tapped properly. I managed to muscle one in, but the second one was worse and the screw sheared off inside. No problem, I've ordered replacement parts once or twice and was actually pleased with the speed, courteousy, etc.

I can't ever raise anyone on the phone with the company, so I turn to email (which I do more and more often these days). The response, in short:

We don't have any more black ones. Here is a form to get a red one, please send a 5x5 square of fabric from the seat and destroy the chair.

I reply, via email, why can't you just send me a red one and I'll swap the rubber pads on the end? No reply, and the return form must be processed within 20 days. So today I'm returning the chair. This is beyond stupid.

That's the exact chair, and the brand with the brain-dead customer service.

Because then you would have two chairs for the price of one, right?

No, send me the piece from the red chair. Its the piece with the colored foot pads.

Then I'll swap the red pads with the black ones I have.

I have a real antique one of those. I'll sandblast and repaint it one of these days.
