Jackson Hole AP reported -17d below z @ 1900hrs. Wind chill was -36d.
I guess that's not too bad, though. I looked up the record low in the valley and it was -66d below z in 1933. Glad I'm down here.
In December 1972 we were working on a ranch survey south of Wilson, Wyoming off Fall Creek Road and it was 42° below zero, which was as low as the thermometer would register. Luckily, there was no wind. Believe it or not, the tellurometers were working fine, as was the HP 3800, which by the way, was not supposed to at that temperature.
In January 1975 when working on the same project staking out the subdivision lots, and staying in Jackson, it was 35° below zero when I went to the Waylon Jennings show at the Cowboy Bar. There were not too many vehicles that would start and Waylon's bus was one of them. Of the vehicles I had there none would start either with the exception of my Cushman Trackster, which was always the outfit that would not start when it was that cold.
I just checked and it is 8° below at the Jackson Airport and is 24° below in Pinedale, which is about 80 ± miles south of Jackson.
Believe it or not, last night it was about 15° here in Arizona where I live and is supposed to get down to about the same tonight.
Perhaps we should be shipping this weather to RADU and Bro. Graham in OZ as the Weather there is Very hot!

Here is a headline I took off the Pinedale Online Web Site a little while ago. The temperature reading in the weather column says it is -20° at this time.

This is our forcast if it gets to 25 above z.
Today, one of my Party chiefs called me and said his paint was frozen up. I told him to put it in the cab so it would thaw.
Typical January in Beaver County, OK.
Ouch!
The Mrs. and I will be heading to Tucson in a week or so to get away from the 40-50 degree stuff here in Ohio. At least the margaritas and chiles rellenos will be worth the trip. Never had a bad time in Arizona and that includes 117 in July.
And this is the main reason my wife will not let me move us to Wyoming. She is a southern girl thru and thru.
