I hadn't reviewed the globe yet at that age, but in first grade at 5, I realized the same conclusion that you mentioned. and by later that year reading the national geographic on Hawaii and the volcanic wonderland beneath it concluded it was going to be very difficult to deal with the magma once I accidentally released it unexpectedly....
