Charlie Daniels can still shake it down. He came to Savannah and kicked our A$$. He actually opened for Little Big Town in a free concert in Forsyth Park. It's fun to watch a 71 year old pro at the top of his game. His band was a bunch of older guys too, and they were excellent. The park was full, and everybody went beserk when he did Devil Went Down To Georgia. Good show. There's hope for all us Geezers.

I've had the opportunity to work live sound production on stage with CDB on two different occasions. He is the genuine article if there ever was such a thing. Before he left the stage, he made it a point to shake your hand and thank you for your work. His own crew worked like a well oiled machine. Charlie's drink was there when he turned around to reach for it and gone when he turned back, his guitars/instrument changes were done so fast you had to look twice to be sure it really had happened. Oh and of course, some of the greatest music and fiddle playing I've had the privilege to see live.
WV,
That was the slickest thing. Charlie would be talking to the crowd, and his guitar tech would come up and slide the old guitar out from under his arm, and slide the new one right back. Just as soon as the song ended he was there with the new guitar. They were smooth.
One other thing. His music isn't just the same old 3/4/5 chord progression, or the same old country riff. It's complicated. It has a LOT of changes both musically and rhythmically, and his band handled it with ease. Being a retired drummer myself, I really enjoyed watching his drummer work. That guy could do more with one hand than I could do with my entire body.

was always a treat when he sat in with the Marshall Tucker Band, those 2 toured together quite a bit back in the 70's.
My son is stationed at Parris Island and was on vacation with me in FL.. We talked about cutting our trip short and heading back a day early to catch the show but couldn't convince everyone else that it was necessary!!!
I'm sure it was a great show!
:good:
I am not much at posting links but Charlie was at the Easter service this year with our church.
You may notice if you watch that he is wearing dark glasses but not for sake of celebrity status. He had cataract surgery on Thursday before Easter weekend and was still there to sing Saturday evening and Sunday morning. This was the Sunday morning service.
If you want to hear what that was like you can here:
