They're everywhere. Ground hornets. Yellow Jackets. First take one quick lick at that stake if you're in the woods and better stand back to see if the ground erupts under your feet and be ready to run. Count three nests so far this morning. Tree hornets, Bald Face. Better not spend too much attention looking not to step on a yellow jackets nest and bump headfirst into a low hanging paper nest. Count so far this morning. Two, at face height. Going to be one of those days. So far they don't seem overly grumpy. That's bound to change as summer wains.

Was going into the dog park a few weeks ago and when I opened the gate I noticed a buzzing sort of noise. This little orange thing bumped into my cheek and it instantly began burning. Backed away and a host arose from the top of a fence post missing its cap. Instantly knew to back up fast. Face started swelling but luckily I had ice. 😉 Called the DPW. And the borough boys were there in fifteen minutes with space suits and flame throwers.
Only good thing was I wasn't some little old lady with her Bijon Fris̩e.
We recently destroyed a yellow jacket nest that had taken over a 30gal trash can that stored dry tender and wood chips.
It was still thriving after two cans of Hornet spray.
Doused it with a couple gallons of Demon mix and it was over....:imp:
We're at 19 paper nests today on this route we're surveying. Including the one my PC bumped with his head watching for ground hornets. Few things in this world will send a grown man running and screaming like a little girl like a horde of PO'd Hornets!
We found a yellow jacket nest last Thursday. Stung twiced. Hurt. All. Night. Long.
