This is probably something most people don't see often. It's a 2006 Chevy Silverado 4wd that the company had a local car lot buy at an auction for $15,000 with 52k miles on it. It had been wrecked and repaired. The front and left fender with some minor work to the hood and driver door.

It current has 402,000+ miles. Original motor with the oil pump replaced once. Tranmission has been rebuilt. Rear axle rebuilt. I have put 350,000 miles on it since I got it in Sept. 2008 and done most of the oil changes and minor maintenance. The only front end alignment was done by me with two stringlines. I replaced the encoder motor sensor on the transfer case twice. Still has the original fuel pump and ujoints unless they were replaced in the first 52,000 miles.

I keep a fuel log and records on maintenance. In 350,000 miles it has taken:

22,647 gallons of fuel, $59,800 , averaging 15.4 mpg

6 sets of tires

67 oil changes at 1.5 gal each, 100.5 gallons of oil. All of it 15w40 Diesel Engine Oil even though it is a 5.3 gasoline engine.

It kinda makes the $15,000 price tag sound like pocket change.

I have to ask, has the check engine light been on the entire time?????

Seriously, it's getting harder to buy a bad truck. Most of the time when things go bad it's because the owner bought the wrong truck for the task at hand or ignored basic maintenance.?ÿ

A rancher from Texas and a potato farmer from Maine met while both were on vacation, and got talking about their properties. The Texan declared, "I can get in my truck at dawn on the east side of my ranch, and drive west 'till sundown, and still not reach the boundary."

The Mainer nodded knowingly and said, "Ayuh, I had a truck like that once."

A Chevy of that vintage with the original fuel pump seems like an oddity to me.?ÿ Don't get me wrong, I love me those Chevies, but I had an '07 that needed a fuel pump every 50K.?ÿ ?ÿThe Hobbs hit over 300K miles and I had replaced 5 of them...everything else was original.?ÿ I let her go and got a new one.?ÿ I bet she's still running somewhere.?ÿ?ÿ

@thebionicman

That is PO code 332 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2) and has been there since 200k (3-11-13) I could erase it and it would stay gone for a month or two and then come back. It doesn't seem to hurt the fuel mileage or the way it runs so I just ignore it. That means I have to check the codes periodically to see if there is any new ones. The knock sensors are below the intake in the valley. That's why it hasn't been fixed.

My work truck was a 2008 F250 crew cab with almost 200k when they replaced it with a 2018 Dodge RAM 2500 crew cab. No offense but Ford makes a truck, Dodge is cheaply made, pretty but cheap. And my Ford was reissued to a Forester. They could've given the Dodge to the Forester and I would've been happy to keep driving the Ford.

Must stay on pavement most of the time.?ÿ I would have gone through at least 25 new sets of tires in 350,000 miles.

JaRo is driving 32,000 miles a year. You have to wonder when he finds time to stop and survey a little.

JaRo likes to park at his home every night while many stay where the road takes them.

His commutes would make me want to take a nap afterward. ?????ÿ

Past June I replaced the tires on my 2001 Tacoma with 184k miles. Got 50k miles from that set that I purchased in 2012, hope these last that long. Set before that went 44k and the ones before that went 47k. I like to use 16in 235 85 series 10ply. Every time I go tire shopping, my models are gone and there are new makers and tread patterns to choose from.

All highway miles, I stop when I arrive at work and unload an ATV . Dozens of times each year I leave my office on the ATV to go to projects because they are only 5 miles away.

@dave-karoly

I've heard similar stories with the various flavors of truck flipped around every which way. I switched to Dodge nearly a decade ago with zero issues since. I don't drive high miles, but I drag my trailer over dirt and gravel logging roads that a lot of trucks can't pull empty.

Get the truck that fits your needs and it will probably last fine, regardless of the badge on the front
