A great thing, at least for me, happened 96 years ago today.?ÿ Today would have been my father's 96th birthday.?ÿ He was born at home in a farm house with only his parents and the local doctor in attendance.?ÿ He was his parents only child.?ÿ They had been married for 10 years and 8 months before he arrived, so he was sort of a miracle child.?ÿ The doctor happened to have a huge amount of experience.?ÿ He had been born in 1850 and joined the Union Army at an early age to fight in the Civil War.?ÿ ?ÿOne local fellow I know was also delivered by that same doctor but in 1926 when the doctor was 76.
My mother was also born at home, in 1919, but I have no information on who delivered her.
How many here had a parent born prior to February 1919?
Not before February, but July 1919.

Pops was born in '20 in a farmhouse near Freedom, OK.?ÿ The house was just south of what is now US64 on the east side of SH50 in Woods Co.?ÿ My mother was five years his junior.
My late Father was born on November 27, 1925 in San Francisco, California.?ÿ By the early 1930s they were living in Mill Valley, Marin County, California which is now a Yuppie town no ordinary person can afford to live in.?ÿ Grandmother's former modest house recently sold for $1.3 million.?ÿ Grandfather was an Iron Worker, worked for a company that made Forest Service fire fighting handtools.?ÿ He died as the result of injuries sustained in an accident at work in 1951, he fell off a ladder.?ÿ He was going to be okay then a blood clot broke free and caused a massive and fatal stroke.
My Grandfather improving the house using a Wards Powercraft table saw which I still have in my shop:
?ÿ
I only have the saw itself, not all the wood framed stand that he built.?ÿ The boy is my Father's youngest brother.
My Dad was born April 1907 at El Reno in the Oklahoma Territory. He always claimed to be a "14 karat Okie" because he was born the same year as the State.

A great thread. ?ÿPlease continue.
My father was born in 1927, the 8th of 12 siblings.?ÿ The oldest born in 1911 and the youngest in 1941.?ÿ When we were getting all the information together for his death certificate we found out he was born in Clay County when all his life he thought he was born in Calhoun County.?ÿ I'm sure there was no doctor present as far out in the country as they lived.?ÿ My grandfather was a sharecropper.

The McGee family who lived a few miles from us when I was a lad had relocated to here from Freedom, OK. Back about 1962 the son kind of had the idea he wouldn't mind being my brother-in-law. Didn't work out that way.

Andy,
My mother's birth record shows her birth in Hastings, Jefferson Co., OK.?ÿ Her actual birth was on a farm south of Temple, Cotton Co., OK.?ÿ A little investigation indicated the doctor that examined the new born at age six weeks and filed for a "certificate of live birth" lived in Hastings.?ÿ And even though he was the only doctor in a three county area all his "birth records" indicate Hastings in Jefferson County because that was his mailing address.
Sometimes I think records were just an afterthought back in those days.?ÿ?ÿ
