I'm pleased to announce the winners of SurveyorConnect's first-ever photo contest! ????
We had a total of 42 entries, and there were a few folks that submitted more than one. Unfortunately, quite a few of the entries were photos that are too small for print, so those were immediately weeded out. We were left with 24 solid entries. However, in the interest of fairness, some of the remaining photos were multiples from single parties, so we established a maximum of two winning photos for a single person. As you might imagine, this brought the eligible number of photos down significantly.
Still, even with the reduced choices, it was hard to pick 12 photos to use for the calendar. They were all good, even the ones that were initially disqualified. When I started the contest and immediately began to receive entries, I knew that picking 12 was going to be a tough job. And indeed it was.
Once the final 12 were selected, I then had the job of using the submitted data to determine each photo's title. I truly appreciate the submissions and many had very thorough descriptions, which helped me title them accordingly. I tried to keep them true to the title submitted, but some were very long and needed to be more brief.
Then it was time to build the calendar. There was a lot of trial-and-error, since I've never built one before. I finally got through it and I really like how it came out. It is already online and available for purchase here.
Ok, I'll quit stalling and get to the stuff you really want to know... the winners! I've also posted the results on the Photo Contest page.

I would like to also point out that I customized the calendar to include specific surveying-related events and historical dates. Most notable of those are two events that memorialize Mark Deal (his birthday and his first post on rpls.com). ?????ÿ
Once you receive your calendar, if you notice any surveying-related historical dates are missing, please let me know! I'd like to be able to include them in the 2023 calendar.
Is there a way to preview the calander photos?

Yes, if you click one of the links to the calendar page you can see the winning photos.
Thanks!?ÿ Sorry for those folks who didn't have enough pixels -- I'll bet there were some good ones there.
@bill93?ÿ
Indeed! It was a difficult task to figure out which ones to use and it would have been nearly impossible had all the entries been large enough to print.

December 23, 1963 birthday.
Are those the correct Mark Deal dates?

I used this: https://surveyorconnect.com/community/postid/560043/
December 23, 1963 birthday.
That's what I came up with.
Cool beans. Looking forward to seeing it. Nice touch to have survey related dates on it. Yet another way to educate annoy family and friends with survey facts!?ÿ
Excellent! Thank you to those who participated and thanks to @wendell for putting it together.?ÿ
Just ordered mine!
Holy calendars, Batman! I just got my shipment of SurveyorConnect calendars and they came out WAY better than I expected. It's a nice relief after creating and previewing them without a hardcopy to verify... until now. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the photo contest, I definitely want to do this again next year!

Received mine today!?ÿ
Those of you making the big bucks should consider buying a calendar for each of your co-workers, business connections and family members who are already tired of your constant string of survey stories at family gatherings.?ÿ Spread the joy far and wide.?ÿ Christmas is sneaking up on you and the calendars aren't stuck on some giant ship off the west coast.
BTW, I would like to slip into @squirl office and use the calendar to cover up that hideous banner on the right.?ÿ The map of Texas is interesting, though.?ÿ Looks a bit like a second-grader attempting to write his name in cursive.

That banner is on the wall opposite of this banner...
As for the map of Texas, it's a reminder of the GPS zones because I'm getting old. It'll be out of date soon enough.
@squirl?ÿ
I had made a wild guess that those represented GPS zones, so I have surprised myself with such astounding guessing.
?ÿ
GPS zones,
What's a GPS zone??ÿ I've heard of SPC zones and UTM zones, but never GPS zones.
Zones of GPS...duh ?????ÿ
