I'm a semi-retired, independent, land surveyor. ?ÿI'm in need of a SMI transfer software program. ?ÿDoes anyone have this or any advice on how to find one. ?ÿMy hard drive recently crashed and now I need to find the transfer software for a new computer, version 7 would work. ?ÿAny help would be greatly appreciated.
I can email it to you.

Welcome aboard, John!
Thank you very much Ed. ?ÿI'm very interested in receiving the transfer program. ?ÿI'm also very new to surveyor connect.com.....what's the best way to proceed. ?ÿShould I give you my email address here ?....or is there another way ? ?ÿWhat's the most recent version of windows will I need for this program to run? ?ÿI have to talk with my computer guy for sure, but thanks again. ?ÿI'm hopeful I'll be able to get back up and running soon. ?ÿJohn
You might be able to get the software to run if it is set to use "Compatibility Mode" with an earlier version of Windows.
I think you might have the additional problem of needing a serial port on your computer to plug the transfer cable into. Newer computers generally don't have serial ports. I don't know if there are adapters to convert from a USB port to serial, or if you can buy a card for your computer with a serial port built in. That'll be another question to run by your computer guy.
I am using my original SMI on my Win 7 computer. Install it directly on the C: drive not in a Programs subfolder. I have a desktop startout shortcut?ÿ and need to open SMI and use it to open asc and raw files in it's data subfolder. I do have a desktop shortcut to the data subfolder to quickly copy asc files to and from my CAD folders. Other than that it works as always.
You can use a USB to serial port adaptor if you get the right one, about 1/2 cannot handle the technology jump. So it is a buy and try lottery. Early on I found one manufacturer that had an online upgrade available for that purpose. They are cheap enough now to just throw away. I have one in a box here, that I have not opened yet for my newer laptop. But work has been slow enough I have not had a need to transfer my work to it. If I needed it, I might buy one if I can't find it fast enough.
