Just to say, 'hello!'. I'm a Brit, a hydrographic surveyor who includes land surveying in my teaching.

g'day Victor
welcome from DownUnder.

Be good to see some pictures of your work.
Be a far cry from my early days for bridges and wharf surveys.

Hello from Ireland. I set up a reference framework on a boat for a hydrographic survey last week. Was new to me but interesting!

Welcome. Apparently I'm the only one in the US awake at four a.m.

Tell us more about your work. In my case, I'm unfamiliar with lots of water.

Hi, everyone. Thanks for your greetings.
I've been following via Twitter for some time as the land surveying commentaries are very useful insights for my students.
I'll post some pictures of our surveys in Plymouth (southwest UK). I started on wharf surveys on the River Thames in 1976, Richard.
I worked out of Cork, Totalsurv, 1977 to 1987. Just discussing vessel dimensional control surveys with my colleagues today. We do all three of taping, Total Station and laser scanning. Whole lot of issues with precision v. scale, multiple reference frames, it's place in debates on positioning accuracy/ accuracy at the outer beams in Multibeam surveys/ the role of the patch test.
More in a minute

So, I teach now rather than do many field surveys but did work on inshore & offshore charting, and the hydrographic work in support of the exploration & extraction industries, and dredging & construction. I contribute to simple land surveying, single beam charting, GIS and a few other support topics. We have boats and a multibeam. We deliver at first degree, MSc and doctoral levels.
I may need to go onto a computer (rather than this iPad) to be able to load images.

Howdy
Spent plenty of time in Post Oak Flats up and down the river bottoms and never really got used to saltwater.
Good to see you found us
B-)

There are a number of Plymouth cities in the US. We even have one in Kansas a few miles west of Emporia. Emporia is sort of midway between Wichita and Kansas City.
