Hi Guys and Gals, I am in Canada although I showed a ME location as I did not see an option.
I know this is a registered surveyors site and I am not but I have always been intrigued with surveying and so on the weekend I bought a David Whites model 8080 at a yard sale. Got the tripod and case and head for 65$, I was happy, all original and in very good shape. Even had the original owners name inside and a calibration certificate.
I have searched the internet trying to find a copy of the manual that would have been with it, I plan to play around on some property we bought and to build an off the grid camp.
Is there anyone here that would know where I could get a copy of the manual or point me to a site. Doing the youtube stuff tutorials to get boned up but my anal self would like to have the original manual if I can find it.
Thanks for any and everyone's help if you see this.
:-S
Thanks
Leonard
Leonard, welcome to the place where we all obtain positive reinforcement for our insanity. Your Model 8080 seems to be fairly similar to DW's newer model:

White's must be a popular brand. Apparently a lot of my colleagues down here in Oklahoma use them exclusively.
Good luck and enjoy the camaraderie, but don't take anything too serious...

Paden,
Do your colleagues have the optional compass?

Probably. I think that's how they all describe their basis of bearing. Like "bearing base was determined from meaned multiple observations from my trusty David White"...;-)
If we only had those who are registered/licensed as participants, this board would be much, much slower. We have both the baptized and the unbaptized amongst us.
Hi Leonard and welcome .
I used a similar instrument, borrowed from my old math teacher from the local high school, to run my first boundary line between two monuments that were in place on our farm.
After a 2,400ft run of setting up in a spot on the sand left by a range pole, I was 1ft north of the monument, close enough to build a fence.
B-)
