Hello everyone,
Was recommended this forum for some good information. I work for an excavation company and the owner wants me to get into doing Drone flight Cut/Fills and GPS modeling as we are having troubles finding someone to do these tasks for us on a tighter time frame.
I have a Diverse construction background, am competent with autocad but it's been about 4 years since I've used it. I am familier with our Topcon systems and Rover. And I am a drone enthusiest. We're looking into Agtek software as it looking as though it will do everything. I would really like to take this opportunity to get more knowledge under my belt and be of more use.

Not only can you learn a great deal on this site, becuase it is the most outstanding online source of informaion related to surveying, but you can very likely make contact with others who may be able to solve the current problem for you. But, beware. Sometimes we get a little rowdy on here, so don't be surprised if someone suggests you only hire licensed surveyors to do this work.
If you haven't used AutoCAD in 4 years; you might be surprised as to how different it is.
It might be helpful to know what you know already: do you have a pilots license?

I am an active Pilot, Single engine IFR. 12000+ hours in N4729C T210 🙂 I still use Autocad but mainly for updates and pulling measurements we don't have. Just not a daily user. We partner with a surveyor that does all of our surveying work, but they do not do the drone work or the GPS models for our equipment. He's older, and the best in the area, but not interested into branching out into these areas, we're in a semi-rural area.
That's the kind of place I'm looking for. 🙂 I'm a fairly active member of a few Jeep forums, and like the zest that comes with forum information.
What's your area/region of the US?
I would suggest for the type of work you're doing a small drone and Pix4D to get your point cloud data cheapest/easiest. (DJI Phantom 4 Pro has been a workhorse for many years.)

If anyone here has been a member of any of the previous iterations (beerleg, rplstoday, surveyorconnect), then you aren't a new member. I guess you could say we're all new users of rpls.com, but we've been grandfathered in. 🙂
I've got a Mavic 2 pro I use currently for Site photos, and personally. DOes pix4d just give data points or does it have the software to do any calculations for cut/fill. What program would best integrate with this? I'd really like to only buy the software once and focus on learning it really well rather than trial a bunch of stuff till I see what works.
