holy cow, The back story to Nevada:

before my wife and I had kids, (this is also before the 2006 recession) we visited Nevada many times.

In the obit posts, I mention a fellow Florida surveyor that got his license in Colorado. Him and another surveyor I did a seminar with made me consider getting my license in Nevada.

We had considered getting a 2nd home there until the recession. We've since tabled the idea until recently.

We want the kids to experience snow. No snow in SoFla.

Welcome Rick. Glad to see another Florida boy joined. Lived in Wellington when it first opened. Was VP of surveying, and a principal owner for 7 years at an Engineering/Surveying firm until it was sold to an International firm. The firm reopened after a non-compete clause expired. It is now called the Wantman Group.

In the 1980ƒ??s Surveying in Loxahatchee was a throw of the dice, no control anywhere, pincushions 5 feet in diameter everywhere, etcƒ??..?ÿ ??ÿ

  1. Yes, I worked with David's father back in the 90's, the post Stanley/Wantman days. I think everybody got bought out, and I suspect much of it was by design.

LOL, David was a blueprint boy and a rodman when the original firm was in operation. Robin Petzold was a eyeman. Great day's!

Joel is one of the smartest buisnessmen I?ÿhave ever known.?ÿ ??ÿ

Hi, and welcome Rick!

Like FL/GA PLS., I too spent a tour in Palm Beach back in the early 80's, in charge of Gee & Jenson's South Florida survey projects while (surveyor) Bill Wallace headed up the firm. That was before heading down further South into Pompano to start up a survey department for CCL. Got wise and left the area while I could still communicate. For a native Florida boy, being understood by Yankees was enough of a challenge, but never cared much to learn Spanish. Couldn't imagine what it's like now.

Be careful out there.

Me too. My experience with the general public, especially drivers, was totally unexpected from a Florida Boy perspective. Everyone was in a "hurry up and wait" mode and rude as hell. Don't even want to know whats it's like now. The South Florida area should be named New York/Cuba/Puerto Rico.?ÿ?ÿWithin the last 5 years the Orlando seems to be headed that way too, sigh. ??ÿ

You probably knew my Dad then. He worked for Gee & Jenson out of the Orlando and then later the Coral Springs office. He was a technician & draftsman.

Rick,

My good friend and former partner Ben Blackburn handled the Orlando-Ft. Myers-Jacksonville office areas back in the day. Bill Wallace (head of Gee & Jenson) had just served his time as Pres. Fla. S&M Society, and convinced Ben (at that current time Pres. of the society) to sell out and join Gee & Jenson. Ben & Wallace convinced me to come join...with the hook I would be going to Saudi Arabia to handle surveying for a huge project Gee & Jenson thought they had sewed up. The project was dropped by the Saudi's, and I didn't stay around. Not too long after Ben left for Alaska. Before Ben and I came aboard, according to Wallace, Gee & Jenson had subbed out all their surveying to the tune of about 10 million dollars a year (1980 dollars).?ÿ Many memories...some better than others of course, but if you liked huge projects Gee & Jenson would definitely fill the bill; me, I'm liking the lazy life of North Fla.

Good luck to you.
