Just a quick introduction....
I'm a service technician for a local dealer, and have "lurked" around this forum for a while. Figured I'd join a few conversations, and offer what I know about some of this technology from servicing it over the past handful of years. I survived about a decade's worth of field/office work for an engineering firm in the area, and have worked with a range of different equipment platforms from plumb bobs to terrestrial scanners. Many different manufacturers, as well as software platforms. I am not registered, but I certainly enjoy and appreciate the work of surveying. I'm quite curious how the profession will adapt to the speed of changing technology.

Hello and welcome,
Are you anywhere near the area that may be getting snow? I may want to come visit a day or two. 😀

Welcome. I am about an hour north of you.
Dustan, welcome!
The very caldron of my family DNA is the Ten Mile area of McMinn Co., TN., near Athens. Beautiful country and fine folks.
Since you brought it up...I have a 13 year old Sokkia Set4 130R series reflectorless TS. Know anybody that works on them?

I worked in the Greenville area for 5 months in 1980. Spent a lot of time in the Gatlinburg and Smokey Mountain area. Haven't been back since but every year I say I'm going. Maybe this year.

I'll give anything a go. Sometimes I have trouble sourcing parts from manufacturers that my dealer doesn't represent, but I have a few contacts.

You must know who I am.....
Welcome aboard.
I just hung a framed copy of the "Knoxville Reconnaissance Map", Edition of October 1901 reprinted 1915, 1:125,000 scale. It has Knoxville in the northwest corner and includes most of the Smoky Mountains National Park before it was a park. Cade's Cove is shown, that is about as close as I've ever been to the Garden of Eden.

East TN is certainly a great place to exist. I've enjoyed the GSMNP for many years living here. It's great to look at, but it's rough on the knees when you are packing it through the hills on a boundary survey. I miss being out in the sticks, but I do not miss the poison ivy...
