My Windows XP won't let me on to Surveyor Connect. Co. I get a warning
"This site can't provide a secure connection"
"Rplstoday uses an unsupported Protocol"
Just spent half the day uninstalling Norton, but still no hookup. Using Chrome.
Any suggestions?
Get a $100+ Win7Pro64 (new parts in old case) from ebay for the internet and take your XP offline and hope your Norton problems end.
Double your expense and go for an I5 or I7 processor and you will have a decent PC.
XPs and today's internet do not work well together.

I have three other computer's with XP and no problems. This machine is a 64 bit machine. Somehow Norton got installed on it. I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall it. It use to say rpls was on an unsecured network. I've gotten rid of that now I have this protocol message. I may have had some luck uninstalling Norton.
Converting from XP to Windows 7 is another scam. You have to buy Windows 10 to install window 7. Or maybe the other way I can't remember. Norton and Driver update are a bitch to uninstall. They keep doing popups warning me about stupid stuff. Very irritating. I have six computer's right now. Just because my software isn't compatible with different Microsoft operating system.
This machine is fast and has alot of memory. I just have a few problems to iron out.
As I am addicted to Surveyor Connect this is an important fix
My XP with Firefox usually works fine on this site. (Away from home on phone right now.)

I think I'll give Firefox a try.

Firefox works. Now I have 3 browsers, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and now Firefox. Aren't computers great?
It's more about the limitations of XP than anything. It is a very old operating system with no more updates so you can expect it to get harder and harder to access websites that have a serious view on security. Every website I build uses an SSL certificate and we keep up with the latest versions of those as well. What all this means is that as time goes on and new technologies emerge, the old, un-updated softwares and operating systems will get harder and harder to work with, especially in an online capacity.
If I were to drop the level of security here to accommodate old software and hardware, I wouldn't just be opening up this website to being hacked, I'd be opening it up to all the users as well. If we lose some users because they don't want to upgrade, that is their choice to make. But I will not sacrifice the security of the vast majority of users, my servers, and my other clients for the sake of a few people that aren't willing to stay current in regards to security.
I'm sorry it has to be that way but the online world is a nasty place and I will do everything I can to protect anyone that may be affected by any project that I'm a part of.

To completely get rid of Norton, you have to download their Uninstaller software from their wedding.

Isn't the problem that you're not secure enough for the newer versions of browsers? Why do other websites work okay, but some do not? I don't understand how it would have something to do with the operating system.? Microsoft is making it as hard as they can to keep updated. The not so well to do can't afford to buy new computers and new software programs to keep feeding Microsoft, Norton, and AutoCAD greed for money.
Sorry but your response kind of pissed me off.

And furthermore the new operating systems have made it easier for hackers and scammers to invade our computers while making it harder for the users to accomplish some work. OPUS is a good example. Works great for awhile and some programmer screws it up so the users don't know if will be usable from one week to the next. How many websites have you been on where you can't find the information you're looking for because it's cluttered with scam links that will install some pop-up producing virus. You can't even do a search on the internet without the first three pages being scams to buy something. Microsoft should be furnishing security programs to fix the flaws they have in their software that allows all these security breeches. Why are users expected to buy new computers and security software to fix their incompetence. My XP computers have operated perfectly for 10 years. I don't need a new system that enables them to spy on me easier and help their marketing.efforts.
I really doubt that anything you do to make your webpage safer has any effect on how a browser accesses it unless it blocks Microsoft's data mining efforts. Funny even Norton's website was also blocked.
No promises, but it is possible that the updated website and the new server may help with some compatibility issues with older operating systems and browsers. I don't really have any old software to test it with, but you are welcome to give it a shot and see how it goes.
All Computers are signing in now without the protocol error. Evidently it was your old website and not my old Windows XP computers.
Ok. It is apparent at this point that no amount of explaining it to you will make any difference. You win.
For the record, and for anyone else concerned, I spent a ridiculous amount of time prior to the move to a new server,?ÿdespite fighting a nasty flu at the same time, trying to find a way to relax our security in regards to old operating systems like Windows XP, while implementing some other way to plug the hole(s). The problem remains that Windows XP and outdated browsers are a security problem and the work that I've done is merely a temporary band-aid. At some point, these "fixes" won't work either and I'll have to abandon them in favor of increased security.
I apologize for making a concerted effort to make it work for you and about 4 other users that I know of.
I have said it before and I will say it again
The XP is a workhorse of a computer and I have 3 for different purposes.
They are not modern day internet worthy and will leave the door open to infect all computers that it is cojoined with the internet.
The antivirus programs out there will not save the XP, they do not update to do so.
Non believer can risk their XPs full of programming if they want, not me.

Agreed. Windows XP was great for it's time and is still a great OS as long as it's not exposed to the internet. It's only a matter of time before it comes crashing down, if it's kept online.
