So, at the risk of putting the cart before the horse, would a live chat room be a reasonable idea?

I say cart-before-horse because I'm not 100% sure if or when I could make it happen. I mean, I'm fairly sure I can do it, but it would probably require some research, testing and implementation time.

It almost functions as chat, as it is, unless you intend to ad voice.

Personally, I visit 5 minutes here, then I'm off, then 5 minutes there. I don't know how much I would stay on and chat for any length of time (just ask my wife).

But, hey, that's just me.

Good points.

The difference would basically be that the chat room would be a stationary page that would automatically refresh without clicking or refreshing your browser. Similar to instant messaging but with multiple people at once.

Wendell,

When I mentioned "chat" below I was merely thinking of this format that you have provided, not like the closed chat rooms on Bob Plum.

Yeah. There were other miscellaneous ramblings about a live chat here awhile back, so I thought I'd at least ask about it. I'm not sure it's necessary, but if the people want it...

I think we'd all really waste a lot of time with that!

Please no

Some of us read really slowly while others type very quickly. A bad combination. This way you are able to follow threads of conversation that interest you while not being bothered by conversation that does not interest you.

Being an "old timer" chat doesn't do anything for me. This forum is almost as quick.

What I would eventually like to see is a search engine similar to RPLS's.

If we are talking about what we would like to see

I would love to see is the person who you are responding to's text beside your posting window. That surveying one above is long and I forgot exactly what it was that he said that made me think my answer. Had to back up to see it and that lost a decent size post. I was too lazy at 7:30 on a Saturday to retype it so I went for the short answer.

Time for Dr. Pepper. 🙂

I believe that a chat room as an additional feature would be the bomb.

A chat site ok, as long as you are able to scroll back far enough to catch up with the goings on and are willing to set there long enough to stay in the conversation. That would take a willing commitment of time that I would not do these days.

I enjoy this format more than a running chat page.

I am on the same channel as Vanishing Evidence, the current format is pretty close to a chat room as it is.

I might use a chat room feature but if I wanted to talk with a certain person I would use a phone. If the chat room had voice, well, that may make a difference in using one.

Hard to really say.. I feel like a bouncing ball now and have no idea on where I will finally land and come to rest..

I think the difference is that chat room chatter doesnt take up room on the server forever. I would not favor it over the board but rather an option with it.

I'm not opposed to a chat room, per se, but if you're taking a poll, I probably wouldn't use it much.

I really enjoyed the Chat room on your old site. Noodles can be a fun person to joust with, in a friendly manner. Anyone with a lick of sense didn't try it any other way.
