Not complaining.
This is much better.
I do prefer phpbb but this is fine.
xenforo is commercial proprietary software. you pay too much for it and your hands are tied.
I find it severely limited.
Thanks

I wholeheartedly disagree. One of the driving forces behind selecting this software was its superior spam and security features. They all have their pros and cons and from my perspective this one had the least amount of cons.

Plus phpbb has a history of security compromises. Maybe they don't exist now, but I have used phpBB in the past and the security problems scared me away.

I respect your opinion.
Thanks again for all that you do for the Surveying Community.

I don't post a lot on this site, but do a lot of lurking... I was quite nervous upon hearing of the format/program change having seen what happened on the old POB site. Personally, I think the new format seems to have a similar interface and I am very happy with it! I know there are a lot of the regular posters here who have much more knowledge than myself and who may see issues that I am unaware of - but I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to Wendell and Angel for all of the time and effort that went in to this process and for taking both input as well as heat for doing this - GOOD JOB!!!!

IMHO the most seamless change i have personally experienced since I fell for the "get a computer to make it easy line."
Thanks to Wendell from the technologically challenged.:snarky:

I just noticed the California forum switched to phpBB software.
Yesterday there was a bunch of spam threads in there but they've been cleaned up. The given reason to switch was the old vbulletin software was a constant security problem and the spamming.
This one has been much cleaner but maybe that's more active administration.

it is a very simple task to set up scripts to eliminate (or reduce) the Spam. also simple to delete the users that do it.
Spam and Security are unrelated. If someone harvests my user ID and password from any forum or such account, no big deal. I use different credentials for each of them... and very different and unique for the places where I use credit card or other financial/personal data.
vbulletin is another commercial proprietary software: risky by that vary nature.
