Lt. Commander John R, Lewandowski, P.E., P.L.S. was my father. He proudly served 23 years in the USN before returning home to the family engineering business. Unfortunately, he passed a number of years ago...but it was nice to see LTC Lewandowski in your post. Made me smile. - Thanx - Matt

Here's my thoughts on increasing donations.....
.....for every $20 you donate you get one free name-calling.
You can either use the name-calling yourself, or you can donate it to the poster of your choice.
I am having dippy idiot withdrawal...:-(

What kind of dippy idiotic idea is that?;-)

I have 1 1/2 Free name calling passes available, and being the good pal that I am, I am giving you the 1/2 part.

Sweeeet!! Does that cover the dippy part or the idiotic part?

1/2? Is that because you called someone a son-of-a...? I take it, that's only worth a 1/2 credit. ;o)

Hmmm, Steve ol buddy, why didn't you simply read the instructions that came with the 1/2?

I Paypal a $ 30, so the math part of me thinks I have 1 1/2 free passes..well, just ONE now JBS

The instructions seem to have been translated by the same guy that wrote my Topcon manual so trial and error seems the best strategy.

Did not Justice Cooley write that you get as many (or a few) free passes as required to maintain harmony in the community, irregardless of the math?

Two reasons for responding to this post:
1) To bring the whole "pitch in, please" to the top; and
2) Question; Without googling, is "irregardless" that same as "regardless"?
Here's my thoughts on increasing donations.....JBS
Answer: No, with that kind of double negative wouldn't that be like saying "regardful"?

Donations to the top!
Also, I looked up IRREGARDLESS this morning. This is interesting:
"Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."
I don't mean to be a smarty pants because I didn't know any of the above, but that word never sounded right to me.

Jeez, must I repost this every time I use "irregardless" 😉
There is a rapidly disappearing tradition in formal English of using the redundant negative as a means to express a point (unboundless, undauntless, uneffectless, unfathomless, etc).
And while parochial word Nazis like the those at the American Heritage Dictionary may frown on "irregardless"; the Oxford English Dictionary considers it to be an "American dialectical" usage.
Since formal language tends to evolve from dialect; the use if "irregardless" signifies that the user is concurrently a traditionalist and ahead of his time.

O.K., now that we're on the Wordcraft board rather than Beer Leg, all I can say is: Ouch!
