An Apology
is not necessary to me.
I saw your late night entry post early in the morning and then the following very early morning ‘post burning’ request from Dave.
I did not find it offensive since it was placed in Humor as a parody. It was somewhat clever and mildly humorous but not insulting in my opinion. After I noticed that it was removed, I googled it to find out that the parody was created about ten years ago by one of Britain’s leading Christian evangelist on the sphere of being Billy Graham like in England. His intent of the parody was to show people that only 'mouth' the words of the prayer and do not imbibe, I mean abide by the words in their life.
such as:
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us
I have noticed here that other religions can be satirized and posters have limited tolerance of other’s beliefs.
As remarked here before many times, It takes a true professional to apologize for their actions here. So thank you for that.
but I was mildly offended more by the removal and censorship of the thread. I did see the DM photo and that was ridiculously funny. Dary could have been 'hanging' with the apostles in another context.
I didn't see it as a disrespectful response. No worse than some posters who used to complain about reading P&R when they had the option to turn it off. As a matter of fact, they made the effort to turn it on just so they could complain about it.
I really want to know what I missed now.
When you get older you will learn Life Lesson #13: It's nor WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it.
If you don't believe me, leave your basement bedroom, go upstairs and ask your mama. 😉
An Apology

Sorry. :'( We had several people privately email us because they felt it was "offensive" so the boss removed it. I personally didn't think it was that bad but maybe I missed something in that post, which wouldn't surprise me considering what I've been through the past 3 weeks. :-/
An Apology . . . not really needed . . .
I found it objectionable . . . although not much.
Delving into P & R is always questionable, even if it's really meant to be "humor".
But, someone tell me that the thread about county recorders and costs of copies is not "political", in nature, cause it really is.
No doubt, following that fine line to allow open discussion as it applies to us surveyors, who work in the political theater, but yet not to allowing "political" conversation, has got to be . . . tough.
I'm certain that the thread's intention was not religious, but it did have tone that seemed a little sacreligious(sp), to me.
Every time something like this comes up, I wonder if a special category that would allow discussion that is political/religious in nature, that would sorta "roll", into oblivion . . . such that any threads more than 2-3 minutes old would just "disappear", automatically.
If no one posts a reply in a few minutes, the entire thread would then just disappear.
This way it wouldn't matter how delightful or inciteful(sp), the thread is . . . it just plain disappears.
All I know(or surmise), is that it has to be a really fine line to have to decide what is or is not worthwhile discussion, regardless of the category.
We have to give the benefit of the doubt to Angel and others to do what is best for the forum, even if we get our toes stepped on from time to time.
Thou shalt not compare
The Lord's Prayer's holy rhyme
With the base haiku?
Dude, you are cool.
Very cool.
Please stay on board and keep the funny coming.
I completely agree with that, Brad.
When I was a young hippie in the 60's we used to have a word that may not still be in use, but I think it exactly describes some of us posting here today...-uptight-...
Can you dig it?
Heh, heh
Don
Thank you for proving my point. 😛
The only point I saw was that you insult people that disagree with you. You know, the basement bedroom stuff and the mama thing.
What was that about?
Just asking,
Don
Support him how?
There is no right not to be offended.
The original post was not intended as an insult to people's beliefs and in fact was written by a preacher.
I absolutely stand by people's rights to follow whichever religion they believe in, but I can't see exactly what "rights" I'm supposed to be standing up for here.
I thought it was a great prayer
FWIW, I thought it was a great prayer.
The weak may have been offended and that's OK...
“Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only”
Romans 14:1-2
I thought it was a great prayer
I was unfamiliar with that passage, but my wife, the resident Christian and biblical scholar in our house knows it well.
After I gave her a brief synopsis of the discussion, she thinks your citation is exactly appropriate.

:good: :good:
Not at all true Don. Simple statement of fact. The only insult here was the chalange to someone else's beliefs and the way it was manifested.
Don't worry if you don't understand the sybolism, he didn't either. 😀
Which challenge? The original beer prayer post, or my query as to why people are offended.
Or are you all bent out of shape over the sacred haiku comment?
