I see a icon for 'Like' but not for 'Dislike'.

The fabric of a current post that has segued into various topics disintegrated and was diminished by various interjections, ad hominem attacks and ejaculations of moot comments and media.

Since there are no active moderators, perhaps a dislike feature could flag a particular posting as being off topic without a continuous interruption of the discussion.

What's the point of having a like feature if there isn't a dislike option

There are moderators, but not 24/7. Pay us wages for 24/7 surveillance and we'll make it happen. 😉

If you find a post you don't like, you can click the "Report" button to tell us about it. And if you'd send us a link (or post it here) of the offending thread, I'll take a look at it for you.

Signed,
Your humble servant and D minus student in Mind Reading class,
Wendell

I can appreciate the difficulty of moderating this site on a part time basis given the volume of traffic here.

I think that it would be improve the site (and the reputation of surveyors) if off-topic posts in Hatfield and Mccoy nonsense.. were removed.
There's a lot of good info in there but it gets lost in the noise.
It's embarrassing to see how badly the thread has devolved.

I started to inventory those posts that are off topic with the idea that I'd "report button" them but my index finger started to cramp just thinking about it.
Please take a chainsaw to that thread.

Thanks

I do not have time to read through 14 pages of lengthy posts. So, the whole thing is gone.

Yes, it is unfortunate. But the people that screwed it up probably shouldn't have screwed it up.

That was an excellent thread demonstrating various techniques to resolve deeds, magnetic bearings, forensic use of historical aerials and antique maps and technology advances in recovery of original monuments. A lot of good posts for a practice of surveying. The thread was PDH quality.
But some posts were total distractions.
A California poster that some needed to take the keys away from and not let behind the wheel offered ad hominem attacks by challenging the poster with middle school taunts. It seems that he had an axe to grind. Also compared CA real estate prices to rural PA that was a hoot. Another poster with an assortment of illogical fallacies that included his middle school photo shop skills with a comic book to attack the poster. a poster who ejaculated a YouTube clip of a Mel Brooks burleque didn't that held no relevance. I assume that there are no sacre cows here.Other posters attacking lifestyle issues and on and on with the memes etc
I offered a solution. If posters have no way of knowing that they are diminishing discussion without engaging them then they will continue.
But WTF just delete it all.

I thought of the thread as the happenings of a normal slow day in the life of great minds with a need to express themselves in the mundane exploitation of others in witty and remedial in depth sidetracks into futile topics of interest while showing their expertise of their more important skills.
carry on...........

Wow, it sounds like I missed something really good. Maybe I should take the time to go back and read through it all. LOL

I like the "dislike" button idea (not for moderating purposes). Not that one dislike would mean a lot, but if someone got a lot of "dislikes" they might realize that their comment wasn't really appreciated. Of course I don't know what it takes to create a dislike button. It might not be worth the effort.
