I know a lot of people are complaining about the speed on the new RPLS and I agree compared to the old site, but shoot, this place is frickin' glacial on my computers. I have time to go get another Negra Modelo, drink it, pass out and wake up again before any of my commands take effect. Just kidding, sort of.
Hmmm, you are the first one to say that. I've been watching the speeds all day and it was relatively fast even during the high traffic times. Is it possible your ISP is doing something?
Steve,
this place is lightning-fast on my computer.
Flies on my pc at the office w/windows 7, and on my laptop wireless running xp
That's what I figured, that it's something on my end if nobody else is saying anything. It's super-slo-mo here at home and at the office. Maybe everybody else has computers that are newer than mine.
If you'd like to investigate further, try this:
- Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
- When the DOS window appears, type: cd.. then press enter and repeat that until the DOS prompt only says C:>
- Now type tracert beerleg.com > test.txt then press enter and wait for several seconds (maybe even a minute or two)
- When the C:> prompt shows up again, you can close that window
- Now double-click My Computer on your desktop (if it exists) or click Start, Computer
- Browse your way to C: and look for a file named test.txt
- Open test.txt then copy and paste the contents in a reply here
That may help us understand where the problem is, anyway.
Zzzzzz.......
😉
You don't have to do it if you don't want to. 🙂

LOL 🙂
Slicker'n greased lightning here.
That's weird. Both my office and home computers are old, but both the old and new RPLS boards run way faster than this one. If it was one or the other, I could see why Wendell's magic tricks would work. If I don't get it figured out, though, this ain't gonna work.
Beer Leg is lightning fast here, on all of my 3 household computers which are connected by WLAN to a Qwest wireless router. No problems at all so far. Am very glad to be here at Beer Leg. Have not even visited the new POB site, probably won't bother with that, since most of my favorite posters are showing up right here anyway. Thanks to Wendell!

I'm happy for you WV, but I just went to the old board, about 5 seconds to move around, the new board about 10 seconds, back to here, I think I nodded off at about a minute. It must be me somehow.
Well, the reason I provided instructions for a traceroute above, is because I suspect that the problem lies with a server somewhere between you and the BeerLeg server. It could be the server you originate from with your ISP or it could be a server you are hopping across to get here.
ISP's generally have many servers, one of which holds your account and from which you originate (basically). Sometimes one of those servers will be overloaded and they need to be made aware of it. You may even hop across a few servers within your ISP before it even leaves and heads over here. So if you are accessing some sites with no issues but a few others (or just one) are having trouble, it tells me that there's an overloaded server somewhere between there and here. The traceroute can potentially determine which one.
Steve, maybe it is something on your end, so I hope you get it sorted out, becuz I always enjoy your posts and would not want slow speed to sway you away from this new resource.

I appreciate your concern and comments and if this place would be quicker for me, it would be the bomb, so I will check it out but maybe not tonight. It's been a long week.

I totally understand! Hope it all works out. Have a  and relax! 🙂

So, What would one of us wierdo Linux people do to trace?
Mine is running blazing fast, but I have noticed issues on other sites with my linux/chrome mix.
Wendell & WV
Traceroute is available in Linux also.
http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl8_traceroute.htm
Note the only required parameter is the destination host or IP number.
Ubuntu does not install traceroute as part of the original setup. You may have to obtain it from whatever source your package uses.
Steven
It's some communication ISP-ISP problem that you have bud.. This site blazes for me.
