WOW!! That number has jumped about 70 since last weekend, or so it seems.
Wendell, weren't you going to do something special for the 1000th signee? Not that I'm saying you HAVE to... I just thought I remembered you saying something along those lines.

Paul,
Mine still says 996 at the bottom. Funny that user #'s 12 (You) and 13 (Me) are commenting on this... or it is to me.
997 Registered Users.
And I stand corrected. There is 997.

Wasn't Me.
ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS.
You can slow down now. You still have three days to reach the 1000 mark and help Uncle Steve get the goods.
998 now... maybe 1000 by NOON!!

998 now!!
Who is User No 1000?
Just curious who that is. If you go to the user directory you will see that the user No. value is past 1000 already.

How do you see that? There is no numerical listing available is there?

Carl..mouse over a name in the directory and you will see the user number.

As an example..
Or..
Who is User No 1000?
OK... I see it, on the first page is a user 1564.
Ahhh... I had a facebook convo with Angel yesterday morning, and she was talking about how many "early morning spammers" there were that the board knew nothing about. They must have a bunch of dead log-in numbers, thus creating a chasm between "registered users" and the "user ID #". That must be the reason.

That is a lot of dead logins. Maybe Wendell will give us a better explanation on the user number as we see it.

What happens is that spammers will often try to register and, since they will usually use a bogus email address, they can't complete the email verification process. After a short period of time, their username is removed automatically from the database, but the user number continues to increment. Then there are the ones who do use a real email address and attempt to send spammy messages in the forum itself or via private messages, but they soon find out that their efforts are futile due to the spam filtering I have setup. I'm alerted and then promptly block and/or delete them permanently. Again, the user number continues to increment.
There's really no way to stop the user number increment, because the system gives them a chance to prove themselves to it... meanwhile, users continue to register and then it's too late to go back.
Im sure Wendell and Angel will inform us....
When there is an official 1000 not just a propped up, spam laced tally.;-)
(Sound like a dish my Hawaiian friend would enjoy) Im sure we will be informed.

Somebody needs to inform McMenamin's or another equally cool eatery to install the "Hawaiian Spam-Laced Tally" on their menu.
> Im sure we will be informed.
Yes, the official user tally is what is shown in the footer of every page here in the forum.
