I currently have a TSC3 that I use with 2 R8-2's.?ÿ I generally run a network rover, and when cell signal is bad, base/rover.

I have the opportunity to purchase a used TSC7 at an affordable price, with Access (2020 I believe).?ÿ I am wanting to double check with the crowd to make sure that the TSC7 and the R8-2 would get along, and I would have two available network rover setups.?ÿ?ÿ

Can anyone verify that the Bluetooth connection would work between the two, or if it would require a data cable.

My next move would be to update to a newer receiver.

?ÿ

Thank you for your advice.

Not sure, I tried that with our R6-2 units, they connected via Bluetooth but we were only able to measure 1 point, then connection was lost. So a no-go for the R6-2.
My advise is to test it if you can't get confirmation here.

@taylor81 Yes, they should pair together quite happily.

You will probably need to configure the receiver options to match your corrections source(s).

You may be able to copy your survey styles from the old controller.

  • @jimcox Thank you for the response!  Do you know if a cable would be required, or if the Bluetooth would suffice?

@taylor81 Bluetooth should just work

- but there have been subtle version changes over the years so it is not absolutely 100% guaranteed

- if it doesnt work, try upgrading to latest versions of the firmware

Our R8-2 units will not connect to the TSC7. The firmware is too old and it cannot be updated further. If you have a later warranty date they may work. I'm not sure the cutoff date..

I've been doing some digging.

There is an official Trimble support note re bluetooth and TSC7and older receivers

It suggests that R8-2 bluetooth may be problematic and that the firmware can not be upgraded beyond v5.36.

If you can't get it to work, a cable will be needed

@robertusa Did you use the 7pin, or the 9pin output on the R8?  While it's less than ideal, for the moment it solves the problem.  It is my intent to update my receivers in the near future, I just want to be able to use what i have in the mean time.

@taylor81 don’t know, cable my company had. Only used it to start R8-2 as a base. Only used it once in the past 2.5 years since getting R12i
