I was playing around on the Javad site the other day and got to noticing that given the different options available on different receivers, that the most bang for the buck would be an LS as base and rover. Mostly due to need to authorize other constellations on the 1M, and them not being an option on the 2.
Question is this, can the LS transmit the "Beast Mode" 5Hz as a base? Would you need the external radio so that you have a fan?
Right now, and being shipped is:
LS running in receive, beast mode. T2 running as a base, beast mode. Radio, broadcasting beast mode. That for sure is what works right now. That's what I bought.
I don't know the answer to your question. ie, can the LS broadcast beast mode. Shawn Billings can probably answer that.

Hi Plumb Bill,
You would not require an external radio. The TRIUMPH-LS can operate as an RTK base station transmitting BEAST MODE RTK corrections at 2 and 5 Hz. I suggest using the external UHF antenna (included in the standard configuration) to optimize base radio performance. You could also use an external antenna cable (UHF Ant Cable SMA/Pole Mount, (12ft/3.6m)) combined with a whip antenna at the base. This will allow you to elevate the antenna off the ground and more efficiently focus the radio energy to increase range.

Will the LS internal radio get hot, or does it have a fan inside?
The internal is a 1 watt radio. I can run my 35 watt radio on 1 watt at 5 hz with no problem. I haven't tried it with the LS at the base.
Ok, so, our options for the future include buying another LS, and placing it as base, and moving the high power base radio to a nearby hilltop... where it can collect base, broadcasting at 1 watt, and then REPEAT it? Does this 5hz thing work well, at over a repeater?
Does using a repeater cause signal latency?
Does latency degrade the solution?
You got answers, I got questions!
🙂

I dunno dat one, I just a newbie.
I don't know if I would feel ok with leaving an LS set up where I can't see it. If you have good cell service, look into broadcasting over the interweb. It is worth the static Ip fee.
I personally would like to see ALL these type of units, come with a HOLE pierced through a piece of casting, so that I can chain or cable lock it to the tripod, and then I can fasten the tripod to the ground, with another one. I'm working on a 12" wood screw, with big flanges, so that things can be seriously tied down. That with an alarm system, and that would be good.

I don't understand why the Triumph 2 is being sold as the base of choice for the LS. As it doesn't use/track some of the other signals (L5 for example) does it not limit the LS to the signals tracked by the Triumph 2. In that case why not just buy 2 Triumph 2's. Am I missing something?
Pretty much my thoughts, too. For now, I don't think there is a lot of benefit to having the additional constellations. Then the two will be a nice receiver to have for static observations, or VRS for a low price of a later date. When the other constellations are available someone will need to upgrade to either a 1M for a base or the LS.
Mr. Frame set up a pretty good security system for his set up, its worth looking at. I cant remeber if it is on here or the Javad Forum.
Seems like it would be easy enough to program in a very loud horn blast or siren if the reciever moves more than a prescribed distance. Maybe they could include this on an update.

Using a Triumph 2 does limit the Triumph-LS RTK solutions to the signals broadcast by the Triumph-2. So you are correct that you miss out on L5 and in the future, Beidou. The Triumph 2 does a good job, even if it's not the best job. The cost difference between the Triumph 2 with an external modem and the Triumph 1 or 1M causes many to decide to use the less expensive "good" option over the more expensive "better" options.
I plan on buying a Triumph 2 for some static work and upgrading over time to base and rover or network rtk. It does look like a great way of wetting your feet with GPS which is the case with me.
If I had the money and was buying a full base and rover straight out I would try and stretch for the 1M alright though to get full advantage of the LS. I'm sure it's still awesome though with just the Triumph 2.

FYI:
Could I run a Trimble R8-4 with the Triumph LS? I already have the R8-4 and it talks to China, Europe and L5. Or does the Trimble not playing well with others kick in again? Could I run a T2 as a base and my R8 as a rover?
Jim, I cannot see your pics

In adding up the prices, I am prone to think getting 2 Ls's might be a good idea. With a radio.
What do you think?
You may be right I haven't really looked at the prices of full base and rover systems as unfortunately it's outside of my price range at the moment. It's static only for me for now.
