We are looking to pick up another R8 and see a lot of refurbished model 3 units. Does anyone know if there is much of a difference between the two models? We will be using it as a rover with VRS.
Thank you
Nothing that you'll see using it on a VRN - I want to say 440 channels vs. 256 and quite a bit more internal memory. The Model 4 specs the same as an R10, more or less, but uses the Fixed/Float algorithm instead of the HD-GNSS engine in the R10. That would be the difference maker - if they ever release firmware that allows the R8-4 to use HD-GNSS instead of Fixed/Float.
I'm pretty sure that the R6-3 has similar specs to the R8-3.
You are correct. The R8 model 4 is essentially the R10 minus SurePoint, xFill, HD-GNSS & WiFi and in a different housing.

Didn't realize there was a model 4
The model 4 was released last year.

Thank You for the clarification, now what would be some of the advantages/disadvantages between the R6-M4 and the R8-M4?
Ralph
The R8 has a 440 channel board with 57MB memory where the R6 is 220 channels and 11MB. Otherwise the primary difference is the R8 comes fully loaded and the R6 has optional upgrades such as Glonass, Galileo, and BeiDou tracking.
Here is a slightly hard to read chart that shows a comparison of Trimble's models:
Trimble R8 1,2, 3 or 4 (differences)
dshearon -
good info there, thanks. If possible, could you show the spec differences between the R8 models 1,2 3 + 4?
Thanks in advance.
