I am in the process of replacing my GNSS receiver with a TRIMBLE R2 centimeter multicostellation with RTX function paired with the TDC600 android handheld with Trimble Access. Any of you have experiences about ...

The R2 is a GIS grade receiver. Uses the same batteries as an R8. Maybe it has its uses but not for surveying.?ÿ

Perhaps a better entry level receiver is the R8 or the modular R8S. It is upgradeable I believe.?ÿ

I wouldn't say it's GIS only. Static specs are about the same as other R-series, RTK specs only a few mm worse than R10/R12.

It's a bit limited in channels and the RTK engine isn't quite as good as the 10s and 12s, but it'll do for basic planimetric mapping and rough (non-hard surfaces) topography. For RTX work, as long as vertical isn't as much of a concern, it'll do just fine.

Also the internal radio is receive only - so can not be used as an RTK base
