I understand you love JAVAD equipment, but aren't you employed by them as well?

No I am not employed by Javad. I am a BETA tester, but not an employee. Just a lot of exciting stuff coming out of that company, and I like to be on top of new technology!

I agree that more services will offer more options for users, particularly those without post processing software in their stable. Government shutdowns and maintenance outages can be problematic for users relying solely on OPUS (which is a fantastic utility by the way).

I've tested the Javad Android Tools somewhat with the Triumph2, and I find it incredibly helpful to simply connect to the receiver with my phone via Bluetooth, download a file, and submit it to NGS OPUS or Javad's own DPOS without ever passing the file through a PC. In the future, this could have significant implications for crews sent out on large control campaigns to be able to send files to a central server (OPUS Projects or others perhaps), with the "crew" equipped only with a small receiver, tripod and a smart phone.

Furthermore results can be obtained from OPUS in the field. I've found, at least locally, in order to do this, that I must use OPUS-S (>2hr session) as there are no range limitations to the CORS used and there are fewer required to be available to get a solution as compared to OPUS-RS (>15min <2hr session). And I must wait until the end of the hour in which my session ended. (So if I end at 10:45, I must wait until 11:01 for the data to become available for processing).

DPOS reporting is still being ironed out, but looks very similar (and perhaps identical) to OPUS reports, but is processed using Javad's own processing engines. It is quite possible that in some environments DPOS may be better than OPUS, but only time will tell. I know from experience that OPUS provides incredible results in open environments but struggles with noisy sites. I have no idea if Javad's system will fare better.

Edit:
Also, one limitation I observed during the government shutdown with some of the other services is that they do not support HTDP for CONUS (and why should the Australians support NAD83_2011?). So while some services do provide excellent results (AUSPOS is perhaps the best of them all), the inability to relate the results to our home reference frame limits the utility to some degree.

Florida has their own version of OPUS, too.

If anyone is interested, the FDOT also runs a free OPUS-like "computation service" at myfloridaGPS.com. Last time I checked, their report is a little lacking in detail, though ... you just get Lat, Long, and Ellipsoid, IIRC, but I suppose it would make a good check.
