I'm interested in hearing any user comments on this GPS thanks.
I appreciate it's not the latest gear, but imagine it can still hold its own.

I like it. It's a bit heavy if you're doing topo, but I use them frequently. Now a days primarily for opus setups.

Richard I've been using it as RTK base and rover for the past 9 years + for static logging. Disadvantages against newer kit are:

Special batteries which can't be hot swapped (they're behind screwed/sealed panels), replacements can be bought now, to my mind they're not cheap. On the other hand you might never need to buy replacements.

No removable memory card, however the internal memory can be accessed by bluetooth or USB cable.

Firmware upgrades require a special serial cable or USB/serial adapter (I think - haven't seen a method of using the USB cable for this). Latest firmware, v3.907 is available from Novatel the receiver board manufacturer. Last firmware available from Sokkia was v3.701, which still appears to work ok.

Sokkia Planning v4.21 is useful pc based software to have for downloading files and configuring the receivers.

On the plus side, they've never let me down, pretty robust receivers. Only time I had a serious multipath issue was in a yard full of corrugated metal sheeting.

Much appreciate your replies.
A local surveyor warned me about the batteries.

Its one of those sad things with today, after market whatever's, spares etc are as though made of solid platinum.
I think surveyors are in the wrong business.
It we don't charge the right price.
Gripe over.
