Does anyone have a rover RINEX file from a stop-n-go PPK session they can share with me??ÿ

I want to understand what the RINEX data looks like when stopping on a point for a short time, recording a point, moving, and then stopping on the next point.

I'd be happy with a snip of a RINEX file showing the data for a few stop-and-go occupations if there's confidential information in the rest of file.?ÿ XXXing-out the the GNSS observations won't ruin my day either.

I've read through a couple 3.xx version RINEX standard documents and the markers are described but not in great detail, and I didn't see examples in the standard.

As far as I can tell, there are time stamped occupation events denoted by epoch records with type 2 and 3 event flags, with marker name (pt number?) records interspersed in the file.?ÿ But that's just my initial understanding from reading the standard.?ÿ

So I'm think I'm looking for a RINEX file that has the epoch records with the type 2 and 3 event flags.?ÿ

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Tony.

PS If my GNSS receiver supported this, I wouldn't be asking.?ÿ The boss has the new gear, and he's really busy. I'm trying to see what I can do with the older gear.

Been using PPK for 25 years, what type of GNSS receiver doesn't support it as a native function?

@mightymoe Iƒ??m experimenting with a couple U-Blox based receivers Iƒ??ve added to the quiver. Limiting factor for me is their radio range. I thought itƒ??d be interesting to see if I can write a program to parse the RINEX from the rover and my RW5 file from my SurvPC collector to make a Stop-and-Go RINEX to process in SurveyGNSS.?ÿ

Though your question made me realize I should be able to get the example RINEX I need out of my other receivers. ?ÿ I never did Stop and Go with them and just didnƒ??t think of it. Itƒ??s obvious in hindsight.?ÿ

I've never seen a PPK session in RINEX form. All of them I've ever done needed to be processed with the native programs. Trimble has a convert to RINEX program that I think may be free, you might try that.

I've only converted to RINEX a couple of times to see if I could, but never used it for anything, seemed to work. RINEX is so 1980's tech. JK!!!

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it might be the case that just about everyone does PPK with vendor-specific formats and software.

Ha!

I know there are some free programs that calculate GPS data, I don't know if any will process PPK. PPK is a powerful process, very underutilized by surveyors. I'm the rare exception I suppose. 20 some years ago we rented chicken buckets to the county and they mounted a receiver on a county rig and drove all the county roads PPK while our base station was running. Even 70 miles distance that data proved to be extremely accurate.

Good to know PPK can be very accurate! Chicken buckets?

I also want to use PPK to check for bad RTK fixes.

RTKLIB (open source) will process the base and rover RINEX files and output a file with a position for each second of data in the rover file.  But figuring out which set of (for example) 120 position records in the output file corresponds to a 2-minute occupation on each point is tedious.

I bought Carlson’s SurveyGNSS post processing software and am wondering if it will process RINEX files with PPK kinematic markers in it.

It seem that each vendor puts the SNG kinematic markers in their proprietary format files and then their PPK software processes their proprietary files. I’m hoping for a receiver independent solution, so it makes sense to me to try to use RINEX files.

The 4800's were a new design for Trimble with the receiver, radio and antenna in one unit. They are big compared to receivers today and shaped a bit like a KFC chicken bucket. Hence the nickname.

I am looking into the potential purchase of PPK post-processing software and the Carlson offering is one on the list. I couldn't find it for sale in their web store, but maybe I was looking in the wrong place or they only sell it through vendors...?

@crashbox Just saw this.   I bought it from a local dealer.  Mike J. has been very helpful; I've bought a few things from him and I generally get a full license key from him within one business day if not the same day.

I am not an expert in either, but a user in both PPK and Rinex. Rinex only uses partial data and a long interval. With PPK you would want all data and a quicker interval. I-Gage is a Carlson vendor AND can explain the technical issues involved. Carlson has way more software packages than show up online. Good Luck.

@toeknee I purchased a copy using the link you posted. You were spot on with respect to Mike's efficiency- I think I had the key within the hour!

Now to figure out how I can get the State Plane coordinates to line up with OPUS... more study and hands-on experience needed 🙂
