i suppose it gets the rough gist of things across to the layperson. but it's not a stretch to see why, when journalists do science, people may end up with a distorted view of what is really going on. australia's coordinates are not 'out', and it won't strictly 'improve the accuracy of all spatial information across the nation'. it will make people who don't really know what they are measuring/recording less wrong though.
There's an increasing awareness of the pending accuracy of handhelds, mobile devices etc.
Then there's the driverless cars and consequences.
Just hope someone gets maps and other spatially oriented stuff on same datum else we'll still be up the creek.
Interesting times ahead.
No doubt it'll spell the end is nigh, for some.
