Hi everyone,

I need some advice on how to get the GPS equipment up and running that I recently acquired. I want to use my R-8s as a base and rover combo. Hereƒ??s what I have:

R8- model 3 with radio

R8- model 2 no radio

TSC2 with survey controller software (eek!)

So far I have been able to connect to the model 3 with a cable and successfully make observations suitable for OPUS. Iƒ??m having trouble connecting via Bluetooth and I know Iƒ??ll need an external radio for the model 2...?ÿ

Here are my concerns:

Why canƒ??t I connect with Bluetooth?

What type of radio would you recommend and what is the approximate range?

Thanks!

Not sure I know what you really have, sounds like the Model 3 has an internal transmission radio. It will connect to the model 2 which should have an ability to receive radio signals. You would set up the Model 3 as the base and use the Model 2 as the rover. It will see the base for long distance (up to 3 miles)?ÿif you have line of sight, but any topography that rises inbetween the base and rover will cut off the radio, large pine trees, buildings, ect?ÿwill also effect radio reception. I would advise the TDL 450 repeater radio for the base, with it you can get up to 6 miles which is really pushing it, again topo?ÿwill shorten the reception. You set it up anywhere you like, it can be on a high hill a mile from the base with no problem. It will repeat the signal from the base to the rover. You will need a motorcycle/ATV deep cycle battery to power it, and a cow bell type of battery for the base. I don't know why the DC bluetooth?ÿwon't see the receivers, too many issues to cover without more info. All the radios need to?ÿshare common frequencies, and you need an FCC license for those frequencies. Take the DC?ÿ?ÿand go to survey styles under Configuration, you can connect to the receiver radio there and check the frequencies listed.
