Okay,

I find myself working in areas without network RTK but with good cell coverage. I'm trying to figure out how to to utilize GSM communications between the base and rover. If it works it will eliminate a bunch of time messing with my radio set ups.

I'm trying to use my AT&T set up. I did get it to work last night but the rover took a long time to connect to the base and today I got nothing. I do have internet on both rover and base since I can log onto our FTP site.

Any help would be appreciated.

I might be able to help with this.

I'm familiar with the configuration for two GS14 receivers with CS15 controllers running Viva SmartWorx 5.50. What equipment and software are you working with?

I'm using ATX1230 GG's and Smartworks 8.71. Cellular access is on AT&T through a couple of Motorola Tundras. The IP's are dynamic. The connection is good.

The reference receiver lists an IP address that I enter in the rover. When I begin the occupation with the base it appears to be transmitting. When I connect the rover to the GSM I get nothing right away. Once it did connect after an long period of time.

Any help would be appreciated.

John,

If you got it to work once (or twice), I'm thinking you have it configured correctly. I've tested it a few times after seeing your post and I've only had success once or twice myself.

After talking with some knowledgeable Leica folks, they're thinking it might be an issue with the IP addresses we're assigned by the service provider you and I have in common (AT&T/Cingular).

I'll try to make a call to them later, but I'm wondering if there are TCP/IP port use limitations depending on which IP address we are randomly assigned every time we connect to the Internet.

Maybe with our efforts combined we can wrap our heads around this. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for it all just yet.

I'm going to see about a static IP. I was thinking of using a DNS service but I can not be sure the IP that the instrument is giving me is actually the current IP. Mine seems to change drastically and when i log into my FTP the address is some weird domain name that I can not search on a whois application.

Shut me an email & we can discuss off line.
