We have a Leica 1200 that we run as a base. Once again one of the pins in the battery box has bent over. It still works.

The boss purchased a GEV195 cable to download. In theory that means we can leave the card alone. Unfortunately we got a cable - that's it...

Does anyone use something similar? So you use the utility within LGO or something stand-alone?

Any help would be appreciated... Tom

I don't know about the 1200 series but our GS15 can be downloaded with Active Sync or the new version.

Here's a link to a driver (bottom of page)

Thanks James. Things are still not quite right. The driver assigns COM3 and Leica demands COM1. COM1 is taken by another USB fakeout device. It looks like i have to run XP mode or delete my other device....

You should be able to go into device manager and force the other device to use a different com port then assign com1 to Leica.

Bionic,

The GEV195 cable is a USB cable which actually emulates a serial connections once you have the driver installed. The latest drivers for Leica accessories can be found on the Leica MyWorld website. The link to the dealer may not have the latest/greatest driver posted. There are actually drivers available for Windows 8 for this cable now.

If you have installed the driver correctly you should be able to got to Windows Device Manager and see this....

The Prolific USB-to-Serial COMM Port is the GEV195 and wil try to be called a low COM number. I am running Windows 7 and it works fine.

So on my PC the cable is assigned COM4... no big deal. In LGO you will need to use the Data Exchange Manager application.

You will see the COM port for the GEV195 listed under the serial connections.... not the USB section. Now right-click on the COM for the cable and select Settings...

Under the COM/USB page set the port as you COM designator and for a GPS1200. This should connect to the folders on the CF card in the receiver and allow you to transfer the files within the LGO application to your local hard drive by click and dragging from lefty side (LGO Data Exchange Manager) to you had drive location listed in right column.

The operating system in System1200 is not a Windows operating system. The operating system is called wind river and is designed for industrial control applications.

The COM designation should be fine a long as it is lower than COM 8.

Thanks for the detailed response. I uninstalled the driver and re-installed V1.50 from the Leica site. This time when I opened data exchange manager COM3 was listed. The settings were already correct and the files downloaded flawlessly. This saves me an $800 repair and eliminates our number 1 source of downtime with the 1200...
