Received today. Been running it as a base station and collecting data for OPUS session. This thing is so small - about the same footprint as my Samsung SIII with case and about as tall as three of them stacked on top of one another.

Testing RTK performance of the LS. Still ironing out a little plumbing between the two, but shows a lot of promise.

What options did you get with it? RTK? GNSS?

I wonder if I could use this with my existing trimble data collectors.

Shawn - That must be the famous "post" station in your backyard. I have been reading about "post" since way back when you guys did all of that R&D on the PM-2s, glad I finally got a look at it. The Triumph-2 looks neat too.

The Triumph-1 will operate with Carlson SurvCE. I hope this one will to, I believe
they have the same chip. They are shipping it as a base for the LS but I hope they have the RTK turned on.

Not sure if RTK is turned on. I'm testing/reviewing the Triumph-LS and the Triumph-2 is being used as the base.

Carlson could certainly support the Triumph-2 as the latest GREIS (GNSS Receiver External Interface Specification) guide is available on the Javad website.

Ha! Yes it is the "POST". That 5/8"x11 threaded mount has seen receivers/antennas from every major manufacturer. It's not much to look at, but has held a stable position for these past 14 years since we built it and is the reference monument we've used for almost every survey we've done in that time. It probably needs a coat of paint if I'm going to keep posting pictures of it.

Shawn,
Be sure to account for the paint in your calculations if you choose to paint it. I painted my shoes one time, and my closures got worse. I had to get them re-calibrated again for first order work. Had to get new shoelaces and everything. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone.

I think the POST goes back to the Locus receivers, definitely is in the surveyor's hall of fame. Shawn and JD did some very long L1 vectors that were very accurate, all things considered. It was a neat "outside the box" experiment.

Shawn,

What do you think about the Triumph-2?

I am thinking of purchasing one (maybe two) for OPUS work.

I like the possibility of using it as a RTN receiver, but I am not excited about using a JAVAD field controller. I would prefer to use a data collector that also supports optical instruments to keep one field file per job.

I am a little concerned about the tiny antenna size. Have you done any testing to see if it is effective at mitigating multipath?

Is the battery life as good as advertised?

I started looking at these http://x90gps.com , and ended up financing one of these http://x9gps.com and I am very pleased.

I looked at those too. Battery life looks pretty short though.

How have your batteries held up?

What data collector do you pair with that unit?

I am very pleased with the battery life.

L30 with Carlson SurvCE. Also quite pleased with that too.

The Triumph-2 thus far has been impressive. I'm encountering one issue with OPUS and the Triumph-2 that I haven't nailed down yet. I've been in contact with Javad's team and with the OPUS team. I've got a bit more testing to do and I'd rather figure it out before commenting on it. It's not a critical issue, but I'd say it's "serious".

Hardware is very good. Battery life is very good. Simple to operate. Scalability to base and rover is a plus. I just downloaded Javad Android Tools from Google Play last night. It looks like it could be a slick utility even for simple static work, but I haven't really delved into it yet.

The x90 is also good and I wouldn't try to talk anyone out of either. You just have to weigh out the differences in each receiver and figure out which one is right for you.

The Javad software is still under construction and improving daily. I can understand your desire to operate GNSS and optical with one box. I can only speculate whether others (such as Carlson) will support the Triumph-2. Given the price point of the Triumph-2, the open developer access to the GREIS commands, I can't imagine that Carlson wouldn't support it. It will likely be a very popular receiver. Mated to that LT30, it will also be very inexpensive and very lightweight.
