I know I sure did.
I got 2 files, from 2 other surveyors, on 2 different datums, and rotations. I had tied some of the points, on a previous job, which they also had tied. So, I was able to Rotate, and Translate both surveys into mine.
The Base Station for one of the files was destroyed.
But, I suspected that the other one was in. So, I input the coord, into my localized file. This allowed the Javad LS to create the underlying SPC pretty close, for the other base station.
I drove the the job, and turned on the LS, and told it to STAKE the other surveyors base. It took me to within 5 ft of it. Mr Shonestedt jumped on it, like a goose on a fat frog. So, since it was a pretty good place to set a base, I set it there.

Here is my base set and running.

Here is the nail, I found, as the base, set by the other surveyor.

Then, I went and shot a number of corners.

Then, I went to my old base station, a few miles away, and shot it.
Then, I realized, I don't really have to shoot my old base... I can dpos it, and it will be pretty close.
I have not yet DPOS-ed it, but after I do, I expect they will be within a few hundredths.
The raw difference, between my old base, and the shot to it, was about 0.85'. I am sure it is due to me using a different Scale factor, than the other surveyor used.
But, now I have all the data I could need. Pure SPC on everything, and double checks to boot.
It has put the fun back in surveying, for me.
It's hard to not be happy with this kind of "work".
Most points got 3 verified, RTK shots, with 3 minutes, and 20 seconds each. With the DPOS to boot, this gives me 6 locations for these points. After I average things, we are gonna have an extra happy meal!
I hope your week went well.
Nate

I will add, there was a small piece of faded flagging, on that nail, out in the middle of a clear-cut, that had been replanted with small pines. It would have been totally impossible to find that nail, without staking it. I staked it WITHOUT a base, and without corrections. We don't have any kind of rtn here. The autonomous solution took me to the nail. I wthink it is semi-corrected with something.
Almost always, when I set my base up, and dpos it, it shifts 3 to 6 feet. So, it is getting some sort of correction, I think.
Being able to stake without a base running is super useful, for searching.

With your set up, how far can you get from base through those pines?

I have not pushed it hard. I had it at 25 watts today, (you can set many different power levels)
At that, power level, I'd expect 3 miles, unless you had dropped into a hole, with pine trees. It seems I take it further, into places I'd not take my older system. And this seems to restrict range.
Range is not as good as my old legacy E's. Tthey were modular. Ie, radio was attached to the pole, and was a separate unit. I think you loose range when you put it all in one box. And, when you push it up to 5 hz, you loose maybe 20% more range.

What this means to us rural folks, is you can search for any point, without a base, if you have pretty good real coords. Great for recon. Or looking a project over. There are many times, when you just want to look for stuff.

I ve wasted a lot of time searching for a base nail in a clear cut from old jobs. Very nice option to have.
