GNSS Solutions and ProMark3

I'm having trouble downloading promark 3 data to GNSS Solutions. Just loaded GNSS Solutions onto a new laptop w/ Windows 10.
When I go to download, the connection via cable dialogue says "no comm enumerated" or something to that effect. The USB connect option is greyed out.
So, as a secondary option, I took out the SD card and copied the files over to the PC. But, couldn't figure out how to get GNSS Solutions to utilize the copied files. Tried the import files option, but it just caused the program to stop working.

Finally, I simply fired up an old computer and downloaded via cable and all works well. Note that this process involved the download via cable option and then selecting the USB option in the list of available comm ports. It is the selection criteria I've been using for some years.

Some years back, I do remember downloading the files by copying directly from the SD card, but I can't seem to get that process to work now. I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

So, long story short, in order to use GNSS solutions on my new computer, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the usb connection to work, or alternatively, how to use files copied directly from the SD card?

thanks much,

Don't know about win10

Have no transferred via cable from the PM3 to computer in long time

I have been removing the SD card and using an SD card to USB adapter to plug into the computer to download files

It is necessary to keep selecting that you are downloading from a PM3
Then select the drive that your adapter is located and
choose the files and drag into the Project window

good luck

I believe the Promark3s require a specialized usb driver which works with XP has not been updated to work with Win7. And probably not Win8 or Win10. Just use the SD card.

Tyler is correct. The culprit is 64-bit.

If you can't use the card, you can use the Real Serial Port on the iopod. You will need a null modem (2-3 reversal) cable and a USB to serial convertor for your computer.

Thanks all.
Will try again to get the program to accept the files straight from the sd card. Still not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong with that route.
A Harris, what do you mean when you said to keep selecting that I'm downloading from a PM3?

Very much appreciated

Always the rub with older softwares and newer O/S like Windows10. The hardware and software manufacturers/vendors always playing catch-up with Microsoft, device drivers, especially for Com Ports, Serial ports, USB port dependent devices like GNSS receivers.

Not all USB-Serial port adapters are created equal, find one that works with all your equipment like GNSS receivers, Robotics and Total stations, guard it with your life, lol.

The GNSS manufacture's, Robotics, Total Station providers and the Geospatial providers are diligently testing Com port devices, and driver issues for Windows10.

Sure makes the Android O/S look better and better everyday, don't it !!

Whoops, I was on my cell phone and did not answer the 'how to connect to the SD' card question:

1. you can either store the jobs on the SD Card directly, or (I prefer) store them on the PM3 internal memory and then use the 'File Manager' to copy them to the SD Card. (Advantage is you have them two places.)

2. You still need to download the files, but you will download them from the SD card which will be attached to your computer. Here is a picture that shows how to direct the 'Download' tool to get the files from a SD Card:

"File: Connect: PC Drive" once yout get the PC Drive listed on the left pane, you can drop the drive letter down and choose your SD Card.

I suspect you will like the SD Card download route much more than the USB download. It is way faster.

Good luck!

Mark

The files on the SD card are compressed into one file so you have to use the download utility to uncompressed them into the standard three files.

After I have inserted the SD card into an adapter and connected that to the USB hub on computer,
go to the Projects tab and click on Download from PM3 it opens the box that MaRk has shown.
I then choose the drive my SD card appears and choose the files and drag into the project folder for processing.
