Since our govt has decided to ruin our gas cans, this has created a new market:

Now, I am in NO way related to the above vendor, and I have nothing to gain, by posting this, BUT, somebody somewhere, probably needs one.
So, this is like, the "Perfect gift for your father in law" or neighbor, etc.
I really dislike being forced to buy stuff I don't like, in a "free country".
This is simply a "Help your fellow surveyor" post.

At least it is a flexible spout.
I've ordered those and they fit the old style red tanks.
Also have a few of these heavy duty tanks
Sportsman Guide sells them as water spouts. They work fine.

Are those OSHA approved?

You will have to ask OSHA, I have not ever spoken to them before.
Who is OSHA? That's a odd name. ....
One trick I was told it to drill a small hole in the top of the can. Stick a golf tee in there. Cut a notch around the head so that it will stay. Instant vent.
I can still remember when I was a small boy seeing the green look on my Pa's face when one of his primed-by-mouth petrol siphoning missions went too far.
I have two styles of gas cans that I use.
This 5 gallon one is for filling up the riding lawn mower, heavy equipment, ATV's, ect.
The "spout" is a hose. If you get the right size hose, you can inset a tip that allows you to actually pour fuel into modern cars and trucks. You can regulate the flow by placing your thumb over the vent. It will spill lots of fuel if you are not careful. The vent cap will get lost and a .17 HMR cartridge case fits in the hole perfectly as a replacement.
Then there is the small engines...
This can actually works very well if you take care of it. It's perfect for filling up your chainsaw, grass trimmer, generators, pumps..things you really don't want to spill fuel all over. It flows decent enough and it shuts off 100%. It can be tipped over and won't leak.
No flaking paint or rust to contaminate your fuel like the old days. Just need to make sure and use the fuel within 30 days, since our gov. saw fit to alter gasoline so it has a short shelf life.
Though the government is messing with how long gas lasts, for me, it lasts considerably longer than 30 days. I have gas in an old style plastic can and had not used it for the better part of a year at least. Perhaps longer, I do not remember for sure if I used my mower last summer or not.
Anyway, I put the old gas in the mower a couple weeks ago and was able to start the mower after a number of pulls. Ran great after the hard start from sitting.
I have neighbors who have kept their gas cans exposed to the weather. I kept mine in a shed. My neighbors have persistent issues with their gas, I never have.
What shocks me is the cost of buying pre-mixed gas in the metal bottles at the home stores. I think a bottle cost more than buying a gas can, the oil, and filling it with gas. I have yet to buy one, I do see where it can be useful to have, like a one time use, well that's the only reason I can see it being useful to buy.
