I am trying to find a wood 7' octagonal range pole. I have been given one that was purchased from an estate sale, but would like to have a pair. Any ideas of where I can get my hands on another one? Thanks in advance for any & all help.

Kevin,
I wish I'd known during tha ASPS Trade Show...I would have brought a 10 foot 'flag' pole. I'll see if I can get some photos.

(These red/white sticks are a must for the USACE line painters to site between the monuments...)

Thanks Dan. The one I was given was from one of my party chiefs when I returned from the conference, and wanted to make a pair for my display. It is the 7' variety and appears to be over 50 years old. I have it in my office displayed with an old transit, an old Bostrom Brady level and pictures of early surveying parties. I guess I am trying to create a mini-museum so my people can see the tools used during the initial development of our country.

I'd be willing to bet that the landscaping subcontractors to the USACE for line marking and monument recovery, don't have a clue what the red & white sticks are, much less how to buck-in on line.

I hope your surgery was a success. I'm praying for a speedy recovery for you.

Thanks for the prayers, Kevin.
Knee is doing fine.

The mini museum is a good idea. When 'old ways' questions come up, or people complain about the equipment the have to use, just pull out the old transit and chain. A taste of the past goes a long way...;-)
