The TAPS Conference kicks off this Thursday morning. Please visit TAPS Website for more information!
I'll be there. Speaking for a 3 1/2 hour segment inside of the Water Wars Seminar, which is really a forensic case involving water boundaries. Will be providing a practical example of a water wars boundary dispute that changed my entire career after 25 years in consulting engineering/surveying--The Boundary Dispute between Rapides and Grant Parishes. The 27-mile-long line is defined by two natural monument water bodies, and the task at hand was to define their positions when the boundary was created in 1869. It was one of the most unusual and ultimately vicious boundary disputes in the history of Louisiana. The seminar is an excellent example of just about everything one could encounter in a water boundary dispute, ranging from technical to very surprising legal tactics. Some of the topics are: Unique ways to determine stream movement over time, tree ring analysis and misleading things about tree rings, time series photogrammetry, the Daubert ruling, un-manned aerial vehicles, the truth about the ordinary high water mark, sedimentology, hydrology, archaeology, geomorphology, bias, twists on the natural hierarchy, unusual ancient survey retracement, historical accounts of clandestine boundary line creation, Indians mooning explorers, and some of the wildest legal tactics that could ever be involved in forensic water boundary surveying. Seminar has continuous on-screen animation and simulation going on for the full duration. Attendees will not be bored.
Dang Frank, that makes me want to go!!
I was s member of TAPS back in the early 80's. Y'all had an Executive Secretary named June (?), I can't recall her last name but she should be awarded saint status. She was an awesome Director!
Dtp
Frank,
I'll be in your seminar. Looking forward to it.
Don, our executive director is Lori Medley. She is awesome. We dread the day when she decides that she wants to retire.
Jimmy
Frank,
Should be a good one. Wish I could make it. Do you plan to present this any other time?
Jerry
I'll be there. Looking forward to it.
To dtp: It was June Pollard, Saint status would be appropriate.
Wish I knew where to find Frank's notes on the ASPLS seminar on June 30th about Surprising Technology at a Minimum cost. It was great.
Anyone going to the TAPS Conference next week?
Yes, I'll be there as well. I figure I had better show up, I am this year's president! I am also helping teach a portion of the review workshop on Thursday.
