Hello,

My name is Iuliu Tatar. I've created an account on hpcalc.org site but I'm not able to access the forum and post a question. I've also tried to post this question at the following e-mail addresses: [email protected] and [email protected] but it came with Failure Delivery Notification. So I'm trying to bring to your attention my question.I became interested in HP 48GX calculators since I've started to use the TDS 48GX survey application that runs on this model. I would be very thankful to somebody willing to spend from his time and give me some help. I've tried to look on lots of forums about HP48GX but I didn't find any answer and I'm running off ideas. Definitely I don't have the level of knowledge and understanding to find the solution. I have the TDS 48 GX ROM card and I'm running the application on a HP 48GX calculator. My question is where the job file, the coordinate file and the raw data file that the application is creating is. I've noticed the application creates a directory called tds.48 located in Home Directory. I looked in all the files (variables) in tds.48 directory and none of it has this information. I also have a 1MB RAM card in port 2. The application card (ROM card) is in port1. If I take out the RAM card the application doesn't run. If I'm checking the ports 2-9 on the RAM card, the system shows 128 KB available on each port. So, nothing on the extension card, nothing in home directory. I have no idea where that information is stored, what kind of files are used, where the job file is stored etc. If I'm downloading the data through the survey application menu it will give me the data files: the coordinates file and the raw data file. I would like to access those coordinates, pertaining to a job created by the application, and further process it in a custom application written for HP48GX for some particular survey jobs. But, unfortunately, I don't have any clues about where to look for. If you are not familiar with this application you might know the right person to direct this question to. I would be very thankful to anybody who can post this question in the forum on hpcalc.org site.

Thank you

As I understand the TDS program will only work when the ram card is installed in Port 2. You must follow the initialize card part of the manual to sinc the card to the HP48

On the HP48, TDS will show one file for each project or job. You must select in the menu if you wish to store raw data, type of instrument, ect

When you download the job data to your computer, the raw data file, coord file, will be created.

There is an application on the TDS program to access raw data before downloading. However, you will still be in the job file. There is no separate file to look for on the HP48.

I do not have my TDS anymore, only a digital copy of a COGO reference manual.

Of course he is, says so in the third sentence.

You can view the raw data in TDS if it exists. I think the files are stored on the RAM card but the only way to get them is through the download process.

Thank you very much for the answers. Anyway this is not solving my problem. What I want is not to download the job files on a PC using the TDS48GX application. This is working perfectly using the menu of the application. My problem is to locate the files on the HP48GX calculator after I'm exiting the application. The files are likely list files, according to the way the user RPL language (the language used to program the HP48GX calculator applications) is storing and organizing the information. My problem is as follows: After using the data collector in the field to get some coordinates I need to exit the TDS48 GX application at the site, launch an application written by myself in user RPL language, which is accessing the lists of coordinates created by the TDS48 GX application and process the coordinates in a way that I want for a particular survey problem. I want to do that right after collecting the coordinates in the field. But I don't know where the coordinate files created by TDS application are stored in HP48GX calculator. So, if somebody who is reading my request knows the answer, please let me know. Thank you very much again.

It will be very helpful to know what version of TDS. It will say on your program card.

I do not believe that I have the correct manual for your TDS version to look at as it does not cover data collection.

The manuals are available for download, google around if you do not have one.

Basically, there is one file in the 48 that contains the coord and raw data.

Somewhere in the menu there is a selection that will enable you to review the raw data only when the option is turned on. If turned off there will be no raw data.

The one file will turn into two files coord file(filename.cr5) and raw data file (filename.raw) when you download to your PC. They are simple text files.

If you have setup any profiles for earthwork or other strings they may also be turned into a separate file in download to the PC.

I have written programs that interact with the tds-48 database. If you have the TDS-48 manual, look for what they call "hooks". These "hooks" allow you to store and recall points directly from the program database for use in your own programs. If you do not have the manual (I can't find mine) I will look through my program and try to extract the info for you.

Thank you for the answers. The program I have is TDS48GX Version 4.31.
If you already wrote applications that interact with TDS48 database you likely have the answer I'm looking for. I don't have the manual for TDS48GX survey application running on HP48GX calculator. I have the manual for TDSCOGO application which is from the same family of applications, but a little less complex, how I know. That would be great if you can look in your program how you did access the TDS48 database. To me it's anyway strange where the information pertaining to each job might be stored, since I've tried different experiments and I didn't get any results. I've checked using PVARS command all the ports: 0 and then 2 to 9 before and after deleting a job and it did show me the same amount of available memory in port 0. In ports 2 to 12 (the ones on the 1MB RAM card in slot 2) it always shows me 131072 Bytes (128 KB) available in each port, which means nothing is on the card. So, to me it is a mystery where that information is physically stored. Thanks again to everybody who looked at my post.
