Hey Everyone! I have my SC State Specific Exam coming up in just over two weeks and I was curious if anyone had any tips to give for this exam. I have been preparing as much as I could and I feel pretty confident but there just isn't alot of information to go off of. I have prepared a lengthy practice exam just to give me a way to apply what I am learning. Any information or guidance would be appreciated!
It's been a year and a half since I took it (and I've taken several others since), so my memory of the exam isn't fresh. I studied the laws, board rules, and standards. I also bought and read the SC boundary law book, but I don't remember if it helped on the exam. The outline in the PSI packet was good. I remember wishing I knew tidal gauges better, but that was only a few questions. Good luck!
Ditto mdavis's comment. Make sure you can recognize some of the regulatory agencies involved in zoning and permitting around the coast and tidal waters. Brush up on convergence angles. Be prepared for some GNSS calculations relating to ellipsoid vs ortho heights. They seem to really want you to understand tidal datums, so study the numerous distinctions: HAT, MHW, MHHW, MLW, MLLW, LAT etc..
Thank you both for responding! I have been studying the SC Boundary Law book regularly, and I have been practicing problems for Grid to Ground and Ground to Grid conversions. As well as calculating the different scale factors. I will look into the regulatory agencies, but I imagine that would be SC DES for Critical Area Permitting. I have also created my own practice exam that includes calculating the different MHW, MLW, etc. Again, thank you both for your guidance! I really appreciate it!
